Money well spent mate. TOP book and one ot the best at capturing what it really means to support the Reds.....

Brian Reade has that rare ability to portray the raw emotion and pscyche behind what it means to folow your football team through the highs and lows and as LFC fans we have experienced our fair share of both.

A cracking read and refreshing change from the usual football autobiographical drivel that gets churned out  :Oo:

Told you !  :D

Anyone who has followed LFC in the 70's or 80's will readily identify with this book and even those that didn't or weren't around then will get a good feel for what it was like folowing your team back then............

His account of Hillsborough is heartbreaking but for me his take on Shankly is the best part of the book...........

For Dads amoungst us he delves into that difficult subject about team affiliation with his son and how he felt when his son announced he was a Blue !  Don't worry though, like all good books, theres an happy ending !   :D

I know how he felt Dalglish i had the same thing with my son, an now my grandaughter its heartbreaking,

His portrayal of Souness as a player an the difference as a manager was spot on , Ruthless an brilliant player but manager well lets just say my feelings on him were and still are the same as his,

I found the breif Paisley interview very moving and it just showed you what a humble man he was ,

Hi Nanny ,

What I SHOULD have said was "for Parents" amoungst us instead of simply Dads !  :D

I have a 4 year old who of course professes to love all things LFC but occasionally he pops in a Man U comment and it's worrying ! :D

Brian Reade was vitriolic over Souness at the time he was manager and the book doesn't hold back either.

I'm currently reading Ian Rush's autobiography and It's interesting that he isn't nearly as critical of Souness and his management methods as Reade was in his book. The diplomatic Ian Rush simply offers the idea that maybe Souness was ahead of his time !!!!!!!!   :D

Any other good reads for us Nany? I love reading footy books, either ex professionals auto biogs or things like the one your on about here. Any that would educate me even more on LFC history?

Are there books written by Shankly or Paisley or are they biographies?

Basically what im saying is, im lazy and want you to tell me what i should be reading.

Thanks :D

Finished this last week.

Absolutely essential reading for any Liverpool supporter. Reade is a die-hard Liverpool fan and also a top journalist who therefore gives a unique and personal account of our club over the last 40 years or so. As mentioned, the 3 Hillsborough chapters our amazingly vivid and poignant. Best Liverpool book I've read so far.

Has anyone read anything else they would recommend that's a cut above the average autobiography? Looking for my next read!

Me too actually - cheers for that one Nanny!

I've read Barnes, Hansen, Carra and Gerrards autobiographys. I've also read Tomkins account of the CL win in 2005 but none of them were close to this book.

Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)

We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

I've got a few Liverpool biogs to get through still but I think I will have to bump this one up to the top of the list.
