and if his not innocent isnt that going to make us look like goofs.. :D  i have got my own t-shirt.. "stevie G kicked the feck out of mannure scum"

Apparently he is a citeh fan and not a manure fan.
I heard off a copper mate of mine that he didn't want to press charges against Gerrard and it was the CPS that have brought the charges against him based on cctv footage. They have also taken into account that he was signing autographs and having his photo taken all night, so that may work in his favour.

He was bailed to appear in court later this month by the police not the CPS. The CPS do not get involved that early. Once he was bailed by the police the file is then sent to CPS to see if there is a case to answer.

Thats not quite correct. Under new charging guidlines the Police afer interview/initial enquiries go to the CPS for charging advice. In this case as it was out of hours it would have been a duty solicitor form CPS direct.

All the material is sent to this solicitor who decides if there is enough evidence to charge. If there is not, and further enquiries are needed then the solcitor will request certain tasks to be completed and the suspect is given police bail. The police then have time to make enquiries, go back to the CPS and get a decision before the suspect returns from bail.
If there are no enquiries that the solicitor can see that need to be done then the suspect will be released no further action.

In this case the solicitor has decided that there is enough evidence and the suspect (Stevie) has been charged with two offences and given bail to attend court.
It has already been decided that there is a case to answer because he has been charged!!!

I tghink you will find its been like that for 22 years.

Well as I have never been arrested for ABH I wouldn't know, However I have been consulting with a friend who works at the CJD (criminal justice department) and they have informed me that the original bail to appear in court would be police bail and between the time he is bailed by the police and appears in court is when the CPS look at the case and decide if their is a case to answer and put together their case against him (if there is one). He may have been charged by the police but when he appears in court the CPS may decide there is no case to answer and offer no evidence.

That is right, but the CPS will NEVER reccomend a charge unless they are 90% certain of gettig a conviction.

There are just too many targets and financial constraints.

New arrest in Steven Gerrard caseJan 14 2009

Liverpool Daily Post

ANOTHER man was arrested yesterday over a brawl in Southport for which Liverpool FC captain Steven Gerrard is appearing in court later this month.

The 19-year-old from Huyton was brought in by police yesterday afternoon on suspicion of assault and affray, after the incident at the Lounge Inn on December 29. Police last night released him on bail, pending further inquiries.

Gerrard, 28, of Formby, is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray, along with John Doran, 29, and Ian Smith, 19, both from Huyton.

The three were among a group of six held at Southport police station for close to 24 hours.

The fracas allegedly broke out over a song choice and left local businessman and part-time DJ Marcus McGee with facial injuries.

BTW the lad arrested is Colleens brother.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.
