Spare me the sanctimonious B.S. I'm simply putting the point across that he (Dossena) is a very poor player who cost £7 million pounds and that I would be happier if he doesn't play for LFC again this season. I'm trying to make the point that a fee of 4-5 mill on Owen (if it was do-able) would hardly constitute much of a risk (particularly if the wages were in-part fitness related), particularly when you compare that fee to the money wasted on Dossena. I'd also ask, who else could you buy for that sort of money? What does 4-5 even 6-7 million get you these days? Especially in January, not a lot.

I am beginning to see why a lot of people on here fall out with you.

Only beginning?

Magpies offer star striker fresh terms  15th December 2008

Newcastle United have formally offered a new contract to striker Michael Owen.

The 29-year-old's current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and he could leave Tyneside on a free transfer next summer should fresh terms not be agreed.

Magpies boss Joe Kinnear confirmed after Sunday's 3-0 victory at Portsmouth that plans were in place to open discussions this week with the England international.

The Newcastle captain is now reportedly set to study the offer with his representatives.

Owen signed at St James' Park from Real Madrid in 2005 and has netted 25 Premier League goals in 56 appearances since the switch.

Bear in mind Ashley has no ca$h, but on the other hand Owen adds to the glamour value of the club.

looking at the history of owen...hmmm..i be very surprise if he extend his contract with newcastle whilst there is so much uncertainty with the club.
owen will come back to lfc, help us win the league and redeem himself.

I would love that to be true but I cannot see rafa swallowing his pride... seems to bring on kidney stones... haha but i cant see owen taking much of a wage cut either....

On the whole business about swallowing pride didnt rafa go in for him when he was leaving madrid ? also in some ways its great that rafa doesnt want to back down against someone who wouldnt give him a chance in the first place - should make owen grovel to come back and take a big wage cut - but i still see owen signing a new massive contract or not going anywhere until the summer . if newcastle loose him the cost of relegation would be 20 mil plus - thats too big a risk for them to take .

That's not very nice bav , just dropping him would be good . No matter what we think of him as a player , you wouldn't want injury on him surely.

I voted no coz im stubborn & it cut me deep when he left us simple because he was my favourite player at the time

but if we did get him back itd be like when fowler came back 4 me id be buzzin & i think alot of the people on here who have voted no would be excited aswell

hes the best finisher in the league right now, he would settle instantly & would give us a good goals 2 games ration no matter how few games hed play i actually think hed be 1 of the few strikers whod be good with torres

:censored: IT BRING R MICHAEL BACK

98 votes cast, majority rules so Rafa must buy back Owen - or bosman his :censored: back to Liverpool. Surely we can afford more than £80k a week which is what Newcastle are rumoured to be offering - £25k less than his reported current wage? And we'd offer title challenges and trophies, something Newcastle have nearly managed a few times in something like 40 years (Cup final or two, threw away a 12 point lead in the league etc)

He's scored goals wherever he's played, he's proven quality and a fraction of the cost of the two alternatives - 'proven premiership quality' which has yet to really translate itself with several less than successful in-Premiership moves, OR buying from abroad which has no guarantees whatsoever, and could as easily be the next Morientes, Baros, Cisse etc as the next Torres
Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

If this Keane thing is true then surley that is a cue for Rafa to buy another striker? And tbh honest given the circumstances I dont see why Rafa wouldn't consider Owen. It's not like we are going to sign another £20M player in this window.
