It's a toughie given that it's Everton. To be honest though, there's a lot of water going to go under the bridge between now and then, but at this stage yes I would. Despite Rafa's strangely sensible selection against Preston, I'm convinced we are about to embark on a period of sustained styling (just a feeling) and if we could most of it out of our system in the FA Cup match and the games against Real Madrid, I'd be all for it.

Play our best side in the league and a weaker side in the cup. I would try to keep it strong enough to still win the game , but maybe rest a few key players.... Gerrard, Torres, Reina .

Interesting fixture. Didnt think we will get everton. What will be more interesting is to see what side rafa will play. Considering we have a full fixture list ahead of us and i think we play everton in the league before the tie. I think a mixture would be best which is capable of winning the match. If we are going to go for all the competitions we are in then we must buy a few more players. Another stiker would do good. Hoping that we do beat everton though, really dont want it to be a draw. We cant afford to add another fixture to the list.

Agree with that but would not rest Reina, goalkeepers can play every game and not get tired! If we are gonna play a weakened team he could be the difference in keeping a clean sheet.Saying that Rafa probably will drop him for the cup game as he did yesterday. Our next game after is Wigan,I would'nt be surprised to see 3 very different teams over the 3 games.TBH the thought of it is starting to make me nervous.
:censored: the FA cup,we're better off out of it ya know.I just dont want to go out to Everton though!

I think Rafas team yesterday gave us an indication that he feels we cam compete on 3 levels this season. Everyone expected a weaken team against Preston bur he went almost full strength. It may prove to be foolish in the end but I say go for it. If we get through we could get 2 or 3 fortunate draws and all of a sudden we are in the semi finals

exactly but then againt mate in the FA cup any team is beatable so i wouldnt call any draw fortunate. The lower league teams could pull out a performance that could shock any PL side.

Should be an exciting week what with two derbies! I for one am looking forward to it (though I can also understand those who are fearing what impact it will have on the league, which is the most important comptetion after all). Anyway, to beat the bitters twice in a week would be absolutely hilarious :D

So our fixtures look like this:

Saturday, 10 January 2009
Stoke v Liverpool, 17:30

Monday, 19 January 2009
Liverpool v Everton, 20:00

Saturday, 24 January 2009
Liverpool v Everton, FA Cup R4, 15:00

Tuesday, 27 January 2009
Wigan v Liverpool, 19:45

Sunday, 01 February 2009
Liverpool v Chelsea, 16:00

So the only "congestion" is the 5 days between the Everton games and the 3 days
leading up to the Wigan away (which involves no travelling)

Strongest team in the first Derby, and only rest the 1 or 2 "key" players for the cup.

Disappointed with the draw in all honesty.

Really think the FA cup is a pointless excercise this season, and drawing Everton might do two things:

1) Distract the players from the task at hand, which is winning the league.

2) Tempt us to take the FA cup game seriously just because it's against Everton - which may have a knock on effect for league games.

It's an exciting tie, and when it comes around I'll be as excited about it as everyone else, but we really could have done without it.
