Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

it's funny seeing the football players going into Alder hey.I had septic arthritis in my hip when I was about 7 and Jan Molby came on the ward and i had my Panini sticker book and the only stickers on the liverpool page was john wark and yes Jan Molby and I was too young to understand and he asked me if i wanted his autograph and i reluctantly said yes and all i saw it as was that he had scribbled over my page and messed it up and when he got off i took the sticker off.
When my dad turned up and found out what i had done he was in bulk with what i had done.I wouldn't mind all the Everton kids got scarfs and little everton gifts and all i got was his signature on his face which i didn't understand at the time.

Until the truth comes out in the papers in the next few days, plus you expect the Sunday papers to have the "exclusive" with the alleged "victim" then, you can't really speculate yet. from all of your comments you seem to be getting a bit wound up!. Expect it all, expect his Missus to come out, news of the world, not even a good enough rag to wipe my behind with, to come out saying.." Oh my Husaband is Paralysed, he can't work for 12 months, it's devasted us, we are all broken, its been traumatic etc etc etc." expect the full works in the tabloids folks! All in the name of gettting a loada hype before the trial, to get a big COMPO CLAIM. My guess is (without knowing the facts), he was more than likley, a gobby little Sh*te who just got a good smack. End of!

Some intersting points from all the previous few pages of posts I have read:

1. Just a break of the skin, ie; a cut is classed as ABH so in reality its not that serious. Also they take into account your history. No way on this earth will Stevie get sent down. If he did that man's wellbeing could be in serious danger. Their are a lot of mitigatiing circumstances. Ie; his direct involvement, previous record, victim's injuries, shows remorse etc which all effect outcome.

2. Their was more than likely CCTV in the bar which the Police are prob studying right now. Expect that to available on Youtube shortly.

3. If I was Stevie I would have legged it lol! When theres trouble like that, the bouncers normally get everyone outside to "isolate" the incident. I would have pegged it b4 the cops showed up.

4. All of you put yourself in Stevie's shoes for a second. He's one of the most recognisable sports people in the country and if your in any bar in the whole of the country there is always that chance that some rival supporter or yob/ less intelligent person , is liable to mouth it off to you! If they feel strongly that they dont like you!

5. All this is Good news for the Lounge Inn on Bold St. Good for their business. It will prob be rammed next week etc with all the "hanger's on, attention seekers, and wannabe WAGS!! with their mobile phones " seeking out the prem footballers haunts!

6. How will this effect Gerrards performance? Crowds will be on his back big time, plus the upcoming court app.!? pressure?

7. Finally. Depsite what has been said on this forum, there must have been sufficient evidence for the police to charge him so soon, whatever that is. He needs a good Celebrity lawyer for his court app, who can expose Loopholes in the law, as I have been inside a court myself, and the prosecution lawyers always "bend the truth" like hell!!! if the maximum sentance is 5 years for this offence then it could go to the Crown Court, as Magistrates only have the power to Sentance up to Six Months.

At court its all about "Which lawyer tells the most convincing Story on the day" ! Just like in the movies.

Good luck Stevie, and get a good lawyer.

:bowdown  Needed to be said.

Lets see the facts first. Then we can form some sort of opinion on whats what.

Rafael Benitez offers Steven Gerrard his full support
Russell Jenkins

Steven Gerrard will return to training with Liverpool this morning after Rafael Benítez called him yesterday to promise the club’s full support in his bid to clear his name.

Gerrard and two friends, John Doran and Ian Smith, were charged with assault and affray in connection with an alleged fracas involving a 34-year-old man during a disturbance at the Lounge Inn in Southport during the early hours of Monday. The three men were bailed to appear at North Sefton Magistrates’ Court on January 23, four days after Liverpool play Everton at Anfield.

Benítez, the Liverpool manager, was surprised to hear that Gerrard had been caught up in the alleged incident, but he assured his captain by phone that he has the club’s full support. Gerrard is said to have felt dejected after spending much of the previous day in police custody, but he was grateful for the call from Benítez.

There is no threat of disciplinary action or being stripped of the captaincy unless Gerrard is found guilty of the charge, which carries a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment. After the squad was given a day off yesterday, the England midfield player will return to training eager to turn his mind back to football and keeping Liverpool on course for their first league title since 1990.

A club statement read: “Steven has been an outstanding servant to Liverpool for the past ten years and the club will give him all the support he needs at this time.” The FA was more reluctant to offer its unconditional backing, but a spokesman confirmed that Gerrard’s England place would not be under threat unless he was convicted of a serious criminal offence.

Although Alan Smith, the Newcastle United forward, was dropped from the England squad in 2003 during investigations over a bottle-throwing incident while playing for Leeds United, the FA now treats individual cases on their own merits.

Liverpool officials have been assured by Kenny Dalglish, the club’s former manager, who was in the bar and spoke to Gerrard shortly before the alleged incident, that the player was not drunk.

Gerrard has been offered the backing of his agent, Struan Marshall, and his family, while there is not thought to be any prospect of losing either of his main commercial deals, with adidas and Lucozade Sport, which bring him a total of about £750,000 a year in addition to his £5.2 million salary from Liverpool.

Steve Martin, chief executive of M&C Saatchi Sport and Entertainment, said: “Steven Gerrard is known as a model professional and someone that kids look up to, so I think the first reaction people have with something like this is that it is out of character for him even to be connected to it. He has a certain image, squeaky-clean but with a kind of edge, that makes him appealing to sponsors. I would be surprised if his main sponsors did not stand by him.”

After the incident at the Lounge Inn, Gerrard was arrested and questioned along with five other men, including Bobby Grant, the Accrington Stanley winger. Three of the men were released, including Grant, but Gerrard, Doran and Smith were charged.

Benítez is pondering a move to sign Glen Johnson, the England full back, from Portsmouth, as well as Emile Heskey, the Wigan Athletic forward. Portsmouth, who are under pressure to sell players, have yet to receive any official contact from Liverpool, but a £6.5 million bid is expected after the transfer window opens tomorrow

Until the full story comes out and its all settled I am not really that interested in anything thats in the papers or being reported on the Radio/T.V

But for now

I don't think it will affect his performance one little bit, and as far as crowds getting on his back and giving him stick, whats new ?. It will make a pleasant change from all the nasty sh!t they sing about him anyway, how much worse can it get " Hey MR D.J put a record on, or Stevie G will smack you"
