well i don't think its up to him lets hope owners do the right thing for once and give rafa 20 mil to spend in jan.

If he can bring in right winger and striker we got a really good chance.

I wanna see dosser , babel , keane gone in jan.

Yes you heard me right babel he had his chance that showing he did vrs arsenal was disgraceful bb babel bb.  :oh:

completely agree,

I have always been one to stand up for Babel but there comes a time when you know that it is just not going to work if you sell these players we could raise some cash to but one world class player that could have a great effect the remainder of the year.

In my eyes we need someone with a very cool footballing brain, maybe a little play maker or a Gary McAllister type figure to give us that extra edge at home :D

your actually having laugh?we have tht 'little playmaker to cool things down' and thats Xabi Alonso....and i cant believe u agree with him to sell Keane..keens a good football ..hes has two goals less than berbatov who went to united for 10 million more and he is gettin criticism thrown at him..

hes a great finisher and wen he suits into our play he will be grand..jus dnt seem him playing his game while hes up top on his own. same with kuyt

Completely agree i can't believe people are willing to throw Keane away only half way through the season  :no . Keane is a very talented and experienced footballer. If we look at the last 2 matches he has played, he has shown a bit of his true form, and that goal against Arsenal was a cracker  :buttrock

Keane will thrive in the second half of this season alongside Torres, you'll see  :buttrock

Just been looking at the respective records of Liverpool, Chelsea and Man Utd seeing where any has an advantage over the others.

Games In Hand

Man Utd have two games in hand as everyone probably knows, however both are home games. They are seven points behind though, but wins in those two games would put them up with Chelsea on points. Of course you need to win games in hand to make most of them, points in hand are sometimes better than games in hand.

Home Records

Man Utd P7 W6 D1 L0 PTS 19
Liverpool P9 W5 D4 L0 PTS 19
Chelsea P9 W3 D4 L2 PTS 13

Fixture Congestion?

The price Man Utd will pay for success is extra fixtures. The 'big four' all qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League. Man Utd are the only team left in the Carling Cup so have two extra games there and a probable third (the final), plus the two they have in hand and a 'should win' FA Cup tie. Hopefully they'll end up dropping points in order to rest players for bigger games in other competitions, time will tell.

Record vs 'Big Four' Rivals

Liverpool P3 W2 D1 L0 PTS 7
Chelsea P3 W0 D1 L2 PTS 1
Man Utd P3 W0 D1 L2 PTS 1

Looks good on the face of it, however the mancs have played all their 'big four' rivals away. We have played two away and Chelsea have played all three at home. I'd certainly take our position in that mini-table over an extra home game, but that mini-table only counts for 18 points maximum, against the rest you're playing for 96 points (maximum) ie the rest are the bread and butter results

Who's Beaten Who (The Rest)

While Chelsea have a phenomenal away record, FIVE of those away wins have come against sides that Liverpool and Man Utd have both beaten as well.

Sides Beaten By Man Utd, Liverpool And Chelsea

Man City
Portsmouth
Middlesbro
Bolton
Blackburn
West Brom
Sunderland

It would be foolish to believe that this automatically means the three will do the double over those seven sides. Only Man Utd's win was away at Portsmouth, this isn't the only example, but some of those sides will be a different proposition on their home turf. Wigan have lost both games so far against the three teams under discussion

Believe it or not, none of Chelsea, Man Utd or Liverpool has beaten Fulham, Newcastle or Tottenham. Newcastle have drawn at Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge, Fulham have only played us. Tottenham have played the 'big four', but haven't lost to any of them.

The rest haven't beaten any of the three teams, but have picked up the odd point here and there.

So What Does All That Mean?

Well Man Utd have two home games in hand, and play the 'big four' at home. That must give them the confidence to believe they have control of the Premiership - there for the taking. They win their games in hand and beat their rivals and they only have to match their rivals' other results all the way to the end to win. Their biggest concern may be fixture congestion with four more games to fit in than their rivals and possibly more

Chelsea's away record is impressive, but since most of those wins are over sides that Man Utd and Liverpool have also beaten, then the record is likely to prove difficult to sustain - as shown against the bitters. Their home record is also something they will be concerned about, as well as losing twice at home in one season to 'big four' rivals.

We're top, have the upper hand in the games against the 'big four' and if we can get a result at Old Trafford then that would give us the control they could have (as mentioned not far back in this post) We need to win the home games against Chelsea and Arsenal, maybe get a result at Old Trafford, and drop less points against sides we should be beating. The return of the king (Torres) may tip the balance in our favour, one thing is certain and that is we must improve on our form of the last eight games. We can't keep relying on Chelsea and the rest dropping points when we do.

I haven't voted as it would be sacrilage, but the last 20 minutes against Arsenal and our reluctance to really go all out for the win gave me my first strong feelings of the season so far that it probably won't be our year. I think we are probably going to have to settle for "setting up basecamp" and giving it an absolute all out assault next season.

As it is, the players are unsurprisingly showing real signs of feeling the pressure in our first title challenge for years, and I think probably the manager is a wee bit too. From here on in, while we are still in with a strong shout the pressure is only going to increase and I just can't if I'm honest see us racking up the seven, eight, nine, ten wins on the bounce we are going to need. The mentality at the club and the belief isn't quite there yet I don't think.

I do believe that had Torres stayed fit, we'd be five or six points better off than we are now, and unfortnately that's where I think we'd need to be to win it. Put a gun to my head and I'd take the Mancs to get up by three or four points, with us comfortably second from Chelsea, with Villa a very creditable fourth.

We can win it though with this team broadly I'm sure of it, and this manager provided we remember the lessons we've already learned, and the ones we are learning from week to week. I'm a little concerned by the styling which is beginning to creep in , as well as the slight hesitancy to go all out for wins. If we can remember those harsh lessons next season, we can go very close again.

I think personally if we can get a good win against Bolton we could go on a good run,we just need to come through the Christmas period unscathed and maybe just maybe we can start to believe....:D

Nice one Owzat.

From my point of view I think we will win the title this year on the assumption that Torres returns and stays injury free (barring other injuries of course). I think Ronaldo is not as great as he was last year as he may be distracted and generally UTD seem less potent and Chelsea seem to be less than confident with their new manager. I do not see why we would falter under the pressure as there is a hunger in the team and that will manifest itself as we get closer to the final stretch.

Our long wait will finally be over

Stoke down to ten men mate
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road
