1) What is it that is deaf, dumb and blind and always tells the truth?

2) On every high tree I may always be found
Likewise on the towering hill
I’m the sport of the boys, and when moving around
Sometimes do appear to stand still
Reversed, in the mansion and cottage I’m seen
I’m used by all people and easily made clean
What am I?

3) A monosyllable I am,an amphibian
If you put me together, I’m syllables two
I’m English, I’m Latin, I’m one or the other,
What’s English for one half, is Latin for t’other.
What am I?

4) To a word of consent, add one half of a fright
Next subjoin what you never beheld in the night
These rightly connected, you’ll quickly obtain
What numbers have seen, but will ne’er see again.
What is the word?

5) You surely need me to make a point sound
I could save time or ease your workday
Rumour-mongers in the market pass me around
When you are satisfied you give me away.
What am I?

6) Just equal are my head and tail,
My middle slender as can be,
Whether I stand on head or heel,
‘Tis all the same to you or me.
But if my head should be cut off,
The matter’s true, although ’tis strange,
My head and body, severed thus,
Immediately to nothing change.
What is it?

7) My body’s taper’d fine and neat
I’ve but one eye, yet am complete
You’d judge me, by my equipage,
The greatest warrior of the age
For when you have survey’d me round,
Nothing but steel is to be found
Yet men I ne’er was known to kill,
Though ladies’ blood I often spill.
What am i?

8) I have no head, and a tail I lack,
But oft have arms, and legs, and a back
I inhabit the palace, the tavern, the cot-
‘Tis a beggarly residence where I am not.
If a monarch were present (I tell you no fable),
I still should be placed at the head of the table.
What am I?

9) My first is a lie; my second is a lie; my whole is the emblem of innocence.

What am I?

10) I go, but never stir,
I count, but never write,
I measure, and divide, and, sir,
You’ll find my measures right.
I run, but never walk,
I strike, but never wound,
I tell you much, but never talk,
In my diurnal round.
What am I?

11) We are seven busy brothers
Laboring every day.
Always helping others
In everything they say.
The first in the Amazon doth dwell,
The second in Egypt has a cell,
The third in Ireland makes his home,
The fourth of us resides in Rome,
The fifth and seventh are in you,
The sixth is everywhere in view.

Can you figure this riddle poem out?

12) My first is seen in pillared halls,
Where kings and princes dwell;
‘Tis found in every woodland vale,
In every sunny dell.
Upon the yellow sandy beach,
The ocean billows roar,
My next-you’ll find it in the foam,
Rippling upon the shore.
Within the dark and gloomy cave,
Hid from the sun’s bright glare,
Precious jewels line the walls,
And my third is always there.
My fourth and last is found in France,
But never seen in Spain;
It has always been in England’s clime,
In every monarch’s reign.
My whole from Jupiter’s court on high,
Descends to cheer the earth;
Without his presence there would be
Of happiness a dearth.
What am I?

13) A feeling all persons detest,
Although by every one felt,
By two letters fully expressed,
By twice two invariably spelt.

14) Short was my life, and brilliant my career
Behead me, I in lovely green appear
Behead again, I once was made to save
My chosen inmates from a watery grave.
What am i?
