ARSENAL VS LIVERPOOL - Sun 21/12/08 4pm

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

3-2 to Liverpool. An epic game. Arsenal to go ahead early (let's say... Eboue) and then LFC to equalise through... ummm... Gerrard. Arsenal to go 2-1 up with maybe 15 minutes to go through Fabregas. Then LFC to get 2 late goals, courtesy of Torres and Kuyt. Yeah, I know it'll never happen. :D

I'm not sure I agree that Rafa and Keane have to "sort it out". I personally couldn't give a feck if they hate each others guts, just so long as we get some value out of the 20 million quid investment we made a couple of months back. the only way that is going to happen, is either we play Keane and he does the business, or failing that we sell him and get as much of our money back as possible.

To allow personal differnces (if indeed there are any) to even come into it while we are in the middle of our first title challenge for years is absolutely unfecking believeable.

Arsenal away as a direct result of our ineptitude at Home has now become at the very least a must not lose, and depending on what everyone else does it might be a must win. I've no idea how we'll go, but if we select Kuyt on his own up front I would think there is more chance of us losing it than winning it.

going to be a tough match but it seems our away form is much better than home. Also against the bigger clubs we seem to play much better. I have got a feeling we will win this one. Still dont think keane will score though. 2-1 to us. stevie G, rafa lover boy kuyt (ball hits his donkey ars and goes in the net) :D

If chelsea win tomorrow we are really going to need to beat arsenal otherwise they'll open up a gap.The sooner Torres gets back the better, imagine the fun he would have had against Hull.

Well Boro have refined the blueprint for playing Arsenal again today...get after them.  Harry them all over the pitch, get stuck in, put yourself about and see if they're truly up for it.  Show them no fear and and look to get after what is, in reality, a very shaky defense from the off.

i think many of us noticed this , kuyt is more effective when he has partner alongside him upfront and when he plays on the right , against wigan he got two goals and he had keane with him upfront . The rest of his goals all came when he was playing on the right , where i think he should play for this game to stop clichy bombarding down the flank .

but a lot of Kuyts goals came when he drifted to the middle and played from there

Anyone know if Aurelio is likely to be back? He was only supposed to be out for a couple of weeks and I hate to think what they could do to Dossena.

I think fabio will deffo be back for this game , don't fancy insua or dossena on that left flank against arsenal , if he doesn't i hope rafa throws agger at left back , at least he can dribble

Reina

Arbeloa         Carragher       Hypia        Agger

Kuyt             Alonso           Gerrard      Riera

                   Babel              Keane

IF rafa does not start keane against arsenal we can more or less say he's going to be sold back . I think babel deserves that shot upfront as he has a pretty good record against the other top 3 , he's the scored against all of them . Going for a 2-0 win

When he's in the box supporting the attack , still he got the goals when he was on the right

Keane must be up for playing the goners, I certainly hope the team are. Too often our unbeaten starts have been followed by p1ss poor form and we drop points badly

02/03 P12 W9 D3 L0 PTS 30 >>> P11 W0 D5 L6 PTS 5
07/08 P14 W8 D6 L0 PTS 30 >>> P9 W2 D4 L3 PTS 10
08/09 P10 W8 D2 L0 PTS 26 >>> P7 W3 D3 L1 PTS 12

Not as bad this season as previously. However if you take games 11-19 under Rafa ie 2nd quarter of the season, then it looks a lot less promising

Games 11-19

04/05 P9 W4 D2 L3 PTS 14
05/06 P9 W8 D1 L0 PTS 25
06/07 P9 W6 D2 L1 PTS 20
07/08 P9 W5 D2 L2 PTS 17
08/09 P7 W3 D3 L1 PTS 12

So any time we get a good start it leads to poor runs, but not nearly as bad as in 02/03

02/03 P9 W2 D2 L5 PTS 8

Bottom line is realistically we can't afford to even draw this one, or Chelsea could be four points clear with a superior GD and we'll be struggling to keep up. We're still in our best ever Premiership start, but only one point better off than in 05/06 and heading for 85 points which would be our best points tally in the Premiership, but could still not be enough.

We should be going into this one with the attitude that a win would be very handy, a draw a good result and a defeat by no means a disaster. Unfortunately though, as we've squandered opportunity after opportunity to pick up Home points, this has become a must not lose game in all probability. Despite people telling everyone to calm down, don't over-react, "the Premiership isn't won or lost in one game FFS!!!" when your challenge unravels it tends to do so very quickly.

Make absolutely no mistake about it, Chelsea will be going into the West Ham game with the intention of putting down a marker. Bare in mind this is the team against whom we barely made a chance worthy of the name two weeks ago when we too had the opportunity to put a nail into our challengers coffins. We didn't take the chance, my guess is that Chelsea will with bells on.

Then if I'm adding it up correctly we'll be two points back with a vastly inferior goal differnce. Defeat against Arsenal followed by the inevitable victory for them, would see us effectively six points adrift and under the most extreme pressure simply to stay in it. You really are in kill or be killed territory then, one more bad result in comparison to your rivals and you are gone for all money from where I'm sitting.

West Ham drew with Chelsea, so it seems that Liverpool's pact with the divil still stands :D

Incredibly the lads have been given another chance and only a win against the gunners will do.
