and of all people for it to hurt, it had to be our already inconfident, struggling striker.

the game was tied at 1-1 and he went for glory instead of a ball to Keane. those are the types of decisions which one will regret if we ended up losing 2-1 or 3-1.

Babbel should have passed but I did not appreciate Keane's song and dance when he was not put through. Not good for team moral as Keane seems to always do it when he is not happy about something. Reminds me of Bellamy a bit with the theatrics and it does not do anything to help the team. The ball should have gone to Keane but who's to say he would not have wasted it either, well going by past experience anyway.

I thiught Babbel seemed up for it and looked strong on the ball. Did make a couple of poor decisions but generally played well in my opinion (I did miss the first 30 minutes).

yes Kazza he did play well compared to his other games, but it also showed his glaring weakness which is his decision making. and i think someone here was comparing his decision making is as good as Ronaldo? :D once he learns how to pass more and not be so individualistic, i reckon he could be a potent weapon in our armory.

Keane, im unsure how to react to his moaning because he seems to be trying to hard, kept making chances for his team but was hardly given any so he was understandably frustrated. his through ball to Ngog was superb.

I agree, i think Keane "theatrics" was going a step too far, but i guess its just frustration built up over, generally the whole season, which is no exception as a professional. But in the end, we are all human :)

I agree with all that you say, I just don't like the dramatics. If he did not make his song and dance MANY would not even have noticed he should have got the ball. By bringing all the attention to the fact he did not get the ball, or he did not think he was offside (to the officials) he alienates himself. He does it regularly, when he does not get the ball he waves his arms and jumps up and down for all to see, yet when he does not make the pass he casually puts his hand up and gets on with it.

He IS trying hard (maybe too hard) because he is a better player than he is showing.

So let me get this straight , babel gets slagged off for being too selfish whereas we have a striker who's happier to pass than shoot ? Babel is a striker , thats why when he had an opening , he takes the shot on . Yes his decision making at that time was stupid , he had the better option to play keane in and should have . This is where maturity comes into play , if stevie , xabi , riera , yossi or masch were in that position , they would have gone with the better option to play keane in . Babel was high on confidence after his goal and you could see he wanted more , he had a good first half and another 25 minutes in the 2nd half . All in all a good performance for babel , first touch was better but passing in decision making still has to be worked on

To often he chooses the wrong option going for glory and either runs straight into a defender or blazes high and wide, add to that a complete lack of urgency when he hasnt got the ball. Strange really, you wouldn't pick him as a Benitez player, FWIW I thought N gog had a better game.

Have to agree. He had the beating of the full-back, but how often did he explore that option? He scored a good goal fair play, he even beat a defender on more than one occaision, but he chose the wrong option nine times out of ten by going for a shot. His 'shoot on sight of goal' policy was annoying, although Keane should have shown more control and had a word in his shell-like instead of waving his arms about, fuming and looking like a poor man's Ronaldo in his petulance. He played more like a striker than where he was supposed to be playing, cutting inside to head for goal and shoot.

I did muse to myself that anyone supposedly playing on the right seems to be scoring (Kuyt, Benayoun and now Babel) so perhaps we should play 1-4-6-0 with the six all on the right flank!

Keane was too deep too often, should have got in the box a lot more and it is fair to criticise someone for shooting all the time when that wasn't their role in the side. Keane played pretty well all-round bar the lack of effective shots and getting in the box. Don't forget Keane's "happier to pass than shoot" policy resulted in 'Egg Nog' scoring so he contributed as much as Babel did to the result, if Babel had played less selfishly then maybe we'd have won 4-1, 5-1 or more. Like I said, Keane didn't get into the box as much as he could and should, but he did make more use of the ball than Babel overall - bar his two 'shots' that is.

And as I said in my previous post, a word in Babel's shell like could have done the trick. Might have done him more long term favours too, Rafa favours 'team players' and Babel will need to play more for the team if he wants to start more often. If he dribbles on goal and shoots every time, no matter where he is (playing), then he'll be wasting possession too much for Rafa's liking

Babel looks far more confident and has more raw ability as a striker at the moment than Keane. Keane works hard but gets into a lot of weird positions plus why the hell is he constantly back in deep midfield and then wondering why he is not scoring goals. A lot of times today you saw Keane and Babel almost swapping positions and that is when Liverpool actually created some drive going forwards.
I don't blame Babel for wanting to move on but I guarantee we will rue it if he does.

spot on mate, common sense finnaly. Keane was actually on the left wing at the start of the season alittle bit. We must not let this jewel out of our hands. He will mature, skills and ability are not in question, fantastic player. Nanny don`t say me `Babel is not everything about Liverpool`,cause this is Ryan`s thread

Are you Dutch by any chance?  ???

lol i love dutch people  :D  I always imagine them owning a small business somewhere in the lower parts of london...............

Ok besides my previous dribble i think it would be a bit of a waste playing Keane anywhere near the wings, because of bleedingly obvious reasons. Would like to see Babel given a chance up front against a weaker side or in an unimportant match, see what he is capable of. Cant hurt can it?  :eyebrow

Toffeehater don't even bother mate, they have Robbie tinted glasses on and will blame Babel for everything.

Ronaldo has always been a greedy barsteward even when first came to the prem, and i don't care what anyone say i didn't in a million years think he would turn out to be the player he has become.

But back to Babel it doesnt matter what he does some of these lads think they could do better   just makes me feel embarressed to see so many people clutching at straws to find a reason to put the lad down.

He is a striker Rafa knew what he was about and knew what position he played in if that's not what he wanted he shouldn't have brought the f'ckin lad.

And for the record
at this very moment Keane looks a sh'iter player than Babel does and also for the record if Babel forfills his potential
i personally think he will be twice the player that Keane is.

He certainly can be, but i don't think he will be given an opportunity to shine at liverpool to be honest. He needs game time, consistently, not just once a month or every off week, and he needs to play in a striker position, i think Rafa will be wasting his time fitting him into a winger role

i didn't think babel had a good game last night. he didn't look up for it - even the commentators said so. and he didn't look up to taking on the full back. pity though since he appeared to have some joy doing it when he did.

the goal probably boosted his confidence a lot. would have loved a goal for keane also and i was jumping on my feet and cursing when babel didn't play keane in.
but i didn't like the way keane vented. a word with babel would have been better than doing what he did.

Wow I can't disagree any more with you, I thought Babel, with the exception of the CB's was one of our best players and created a lot of movement in the side, he was dribbling past players and was confident.

I really don't understand how blinkered you guys are sometimes. I know I used to slag Kuyt off but when he improved and became effective I was one of the first to say so, now it's time for you guys to grow up a bit and give credit where credit due, Babel's goal was class and his contribution yesterday was excellent, ok he missed a few passes but he probably knew in the back of his mind that both Eggnog and Keane would probably have arsed up the chances anyway. If anyone needed a word it was Keane for his constant winging and the fact that he was constantly out of bloody position, £20 million :no

BTW the shot that everyone is talking about was not that far off target, would you guys have been moaning at Riera if his shot hadn't gone in??
