PSV EINDHOVEN VS LIVERPOOL - Tuesday 9/12/08  19:45 ko

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Looking forward to this no matter what the lineup is.  If it's young kids hopefully they can put on a decent show and not get run off the pitch like the CC.

Jeezuz,if I could adjust (and improve) your line up, think we'd stand a better chance if we fielded

.                 Riena

.arbeloa  carra - agger - traffic cone

.benny - traffic cone  - mash - riera

.              Babel       traffic cone

:nod

Traffic cones aren't registered for the CL I'm afraid  :D

Clearly it would be nice to win so we don't need to face Barce, but I know we can beat Bayern.  Clearly.

i would have chosen Alonso over Lucas but since Rafa hints Lucas is playing it might look liker this. strong team i feel.
edit: mash is injured?

its being said Mash wont be playing coz he has a dead leg on .tv? so i guess its Alonso with Lucas in the middle for me. dont see why we cant win. we have enough quality to sink them by 3 clear goals.

"I'm always trying to improve," said Lucas, who also has young Frenchman Damien Plessis hot on his heels.

"All I can do is try to improve every single day in training and that will give me a better chance of playing well if I am given some minutes on the pitch for the team.

"I know how difficult it is to play in midfield for a club like Liverpool as we have players like Gerrard, Alonso and Mascherano who also play there and are great players."

Although he does not boast the impressive appearance haul of his teammates in international football yet, the youngster has become a regular in Dunga's Brazil squad following an impressive spell as Brazil U20 captain.

Lucas hopes such a progression can soon be matched at Liverpool.

"I think I am a better player than I was last season. I have not played too much but when I do I try to play with a high tempo because I think that is the key to doing well for an English team."

The dead leg suffered by Mascherano against Blackburn on Saturday could give Lucas a starting opportunity against PSV Eindhoven this evening, and with it a chance to repay boss Rafa Benitez's faith in him.

Strange team but; Gerrard, Kuyt and mascherano will get some rest, Keane will get some playtime, and Babel Pennant and Lucas will have another chance to prove their worth.  I also want to see Benayoun come in at some point.

I also think there is not a chance in hell Rafa will select this team.

If we can get off to a good start and start the scoring early, I see this being another 1-3 or a 0-2.

Doesn't seem like Pennant traveled:

There were a few absences from the travelling squad, however. Dirk Kuyt stayed at home to recover from a slight hamstring strain he picked up towards the end of Saturday's 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers, while Fernando Torres, Martin Skrtel, Fabio Aurelio and Philip Degen are all out with hamstring, knee, calf and foot injuries respectively.

Reserve team starlets Martin Kelly, Stephen Darby and Jay Spearing were also included in the trip to Eindhoven, where the current temperature is a chilly three degrees Celsius.

The Liverpool squad in full: Reina, Cavalieri, Dossena, Agger, Carragher, Arbeloa, Darby, Kelly, Spearing, Gerrard, Alonso, Lucas, Mascherano, Benayoun, Riera, Keane, Babel, Ngog.

Quotes from Rafa:

"It is difficult to say now who will play in Eindhoven, but it is clear that we will be making several changes," he said.

"But we will probably take most of the senior players because of the prospect of injuries.

"The players are involved in more matches these days. Kuyt, Carragher and Arbeloa have all played a lot of games this season.

"But Lucas will be involved. People have criticised him recently but he has been working so hard, he is the kind of player with a great character who will become very important for us."

And people wonder why I want him to resign! :veryangry
