What is feckin wrong with people? We win 3-1 remain top, yet its Rafa out!!!!

Unfeckinbelievable.

If we don't win anything this season, then those supporters should blame no one but themselves.  :censored: cretins!

As for stats, this now our best Premiership start by three clear points.

Best Premiership Starts - Game 16

08/09 37 points
05/06 34 points
01/02 33 points
96/97 31 points
02/03 31 points

2005/06 was our best Premiership points tally and we're three points better off than that season. We'd lost to Chelsea at home and Fulham away by this stage that season and drawn with the mancs at home - the only other time we've not lost to them under Rafa in the league. 2005/06 season's start was pretty bad, just two wins in the first seven games. But by game 16 we were in the tail end of 10 wins in a row - to win 10 in a row from yesterday may be a dream, but it sure would put us in a dominant position

Someone put forward the suggestion we finish stronger in the second half of the season than any other top four side. I think that's pretty unlikely even without checking rivals' records.

Second Half Premiership Points Tally Better Than First Half

01/02 6 points (43 v 37)
92/93 3 points (31 v 28)
95/96 3 points (37 v 34)
00/01 3 points (36 v 33)

Overall we break about even. 1996/97 was a good start to the season, followed up by a very poor finish - we picked up eight less points in the second half than in the first half. Under Rafa the split is :

04/05 31 v 27
05/06 41 v 41
06/07 34 v 34
07/08 37 v 39

Only once have we had a stronger second half of the season under Rafa, I'd find it hard to believe teams notching up 27+ wins a season would have picked up 15 first half and 12 second half which is more or less what they'd have to for us to have had stronger run-ins (13x3=39 being the reason - we've only managed 39+ in three Premiership seasons)

Long may it last.

I believe it's only the fourth time in sixteen rounds of matches that we've been outright top. The mancs are six points behind with a game in hand which is something to keep one eye on, the other being firmly fixed on Chelsea

Our formation was quite poorly executed. In the first half kuyt was soo isolated that why we played shyte. We got a bit lucky with the first goal. Glad though we stepped up the gear and won eventually when it looked like a 0-0 game. Until we get torres back every game is going to be a bit nervy. As long as we win i dont care. 3 points is the key and staying top. Any ugly win will do.

totally agree, 3 times in the first half arbeloa bent in a good cross and kuyt wa the only red shirt with in 10yard of the box. again, i think thats because gerrard is still not 100% after his injury

I think some people are being a bit harsh on Kuyt. It was his vision and long through ball that put Yossi in position to make it 2-0.

WTF do you expect on here, they need some one to cry about as usual. :D

Yesterday was not a good team performance atal, singling out players for criticism is daft...but its expected on here.

3 points is all that matters in the end!

We won ugly so what. Its what all champions have to do. When they dont play well they still have to find a way to get the 3 points. We won a few games like this early in the season so im not to bothered. And 3-1 makes it sound even better. :) But im looking forward to the Hull game. Utd have Spurs away and are without Rooney so there is a possbility to open up some more of a gap.

- 1st goal was off a Kuyt deflection.
- 2nd goal Kuyt showed great vision and execution to hit up Benayoun
- 3rd goal Kuyt put El Zhar through

He looks like a bumbling fool but he always gets the job done. Today was no exception. Have to say that in the short time Riera was on the field he looked fantastic. I think we might actually get a lot more out of him if we used him as a supersub.

I think Riera put El Zhar through, then it bounced back to him, and he passed to Gerrard.  I may be wrong.

nope...you are spot on.

1. kuyt sets up el-zhar, el-zhar chased but deflected by robinson, ball went to riera, riera flicks to gerrard, and then 3-1.

no,it was riera two times

It is great feeling after winning away game,but...
Rafa did not learn anything from last 4 seasons. And I think he will be the same until we are out of the title race, like every year. You know, maybe everything looked great after we won 3 points, but it was the same Stoke,Fulham,W Ham performance, which means there is going to be a few more these games, which is not good.
