X-Files (although BoB was great, it's unfair to be put next to this as a choice because it only lasted a few episodes against something that ran for 9 years and spawned two films, games, comics etc etc)

A fair point EM, but the same could reasonably be argued about the Hill Street Blues v Dexter pairing .

Dexter is outstanding TV but on the other hand Hill St Blues was an iconic "Cop" show that ran for years.

Ha, yeah, I forgot about that one. Jimmy Smits being in Dexter should have reminded you of that. It's true, though about the pairing of those two: one is absolutely riveting TV because it was based on something factual, and because it was short, it was packed with quality production and entertainment; while on the other hand, the X-Files was a convoluted and drawn out affair that lost its way with the last two series, but was a phenomenon in the 90's and earned a massive cult status.

There was another show with a cult following that no one mentioned, and that show was the 80's classic V. How could anyone forget about that one?

NYPD Blues if that's the case we might aswell go for Cagney and Lacey
or Chips. :D
