seeing how everyone is sensibly putting their opinions across and no one is name-calling or abusing...i thought maybe we could have another debate that MIGHT become controversial depending on the examples used to put points across. but of course if it crosses the line then the thread would be locked. so the topics are:

1) should we continue to prosecute Nazi war criminals for crimes they committed decades ago?

2) should prostitution be legalised ? do the benefits of legalisation or decriminalization outweigh the possible dangers? IMO, one way to see it is that it would reduce the chances of your wife/daughter being rape. like..the prostitutes would do us a societal favour.

3) should sex offenders be publicly named? should they be chemically castrated as a punishment too?

1.)  Yes, they committed a crime and whether it was then or now what they did is still un-acceptable.

2.)  Sure, why not.  Who does it hurt?  Have some rules on it like age and the hookers would need medical cards showing any STDs and such.  But I can't see how it would hurt anything except maybe image.

3.)  Publicly named yes.  Castrated I guess would depend on what they did?  Thats a pretty serious thing to do, so I guess it would be used as a last resort.  But thats still even pushing it.

1) but they are probably in their last years now, old and all, wouldnt the public be sympathetic to them due to age?

2) it might result in a rise in STDs and school children, out of curiosity might actually pay to get laid. what if the hookers started to roam around neighbourhood districts would it not tarnish the name of the street that you live in?

3) i do agree with naming them and that chemical castration is pushing it. the law has to be fair and give the offenders a chance to reform.

The only way I could see prostitution being legalized is it would need to have a strict set of enforced rules.  No street walkers, just houses and maybe house calls.  Age limit I would say 18 for most countries, but knowing the USA it would be 19 or 21.

As for the spread of STDs, I think the medical card would be good.  STDs wouldn't spread too much because if the card said shes a burner, how many would still pay for their services?  Maybe offer a discount or something, but chances are she probably wouldn't even be hired.  It would also help on the card for some basic info, on what she does and doesn't do.  Chances are one list will be longer then the other  :p

the age limit bit is abit tricky. cause if its a house call, an adult could be the one calling but it might be a 17 year old banging her. im unsure if the prostitute would say no to money despite his age considering the fact that she hasnt got much morales left anyway.

Jon you want a detailed report card for her   she might as well have a resume :D

It's a business, they need to act professional.
They need to dress appropriate (I know they are ugly, I'm sure there are better pictures out there but I didn't find them)

Buyer Beware.  They would be at fault, keep it down for an extra minute, check for STDs, then go on your way  :D

as we were saying before we were so rudely interrupted, prostitution could be legalized. so they need do take health checks, be free from any STDs, operate in a brothel or house - not neighbourhoods, customers need to be 18 and above, and its at buyers' risk.

(oh its World AIDS Day today) anyway....

some might actually create fake 'report cards' meaning the government would actually need to issue legal cards with unique codes so it cant be faked. but then so much for the prostitutes being clean from any STDs...what if the ''buyer'' himself is actually a carrier?

No doubt, the card carrying do-goodingbleedinheartleftopinkopoliticalcorrectnesslovers will have different  views on this, just to be fashionable of course.
