Fifa games were never the worst football games, it's just that PES was always 100 times better than them. Not anymore. Fifa 09 is easily the most realistic, and most playable football sim ever created. The game is amazing and no PES game will ever get close to it for the simple reasons is that the tech they use is too dated and isn't likely to change in order to catch up with what EA are doing with Fifa any time soon. BTW, Fifa 09 is the first Fifa game I've ever bought. The rest of the time it was always PES or ISS over 10 years or more, so what does that tell you.

You didn't play it ENOUGH!

Her's the irony: PES freaks for years - including myself - banged on about how PES was like real football, and how it was the proper sim of the sport, whereas Fifa was stupid, simple and arcady. Right, now that Fifa plays even more complex and close to the game than PES ever did, replicating the sport almost in a perfect fashion due to how patterns of play pan out, and how certain players feel different, play different, have noticeable attributes etc etc, with physics playing a massive role in gameplay now, how come there are PES fans that still claim PES is better now that IT is the arcade game?

Like most people who first played PES, it took them time to get the hang of it because it was so hard to score, and they actually needed to pass the ball. Fifa 09 is the exact same thing, only it's far more complex than any PES game. You need to be very patient in your build up, while sometimes it's just all down to reading and understanding the game itself, just like the real thing, it's that good. Takes time, but once you get the feel of it, there is no going back.

emerald, i CANNOT get into fifa at all, but i aint bought PES 09 because i know il only break something the 1st time AI gifts itself a goal from a corner (every other stinkin game in 08) or your forward pass inexplicably goes sideways to a free oposition player. But sorry red, having to try the mortal kombat-esque 7 button combo just to do a dummy to give yourself 2 inches to cross the ball dont set well with burjennio.

It takes time. Once you get past the different, and far more realistic, feel to the game, and then start mastering controls, the game just opens up and exposes itself for what it is, and that's the best game EA have ever produced. Not just for a sports game, but any game. It's so far ahead of PES now that PES just will never touch it. Simple as that. It's just the sheer freedom and organic nature of the game that has it up there with GEARS 2 as the best game I've played this year. No doubt once I play Fable 2 and Fallout 3, things may change, but it's second on my list, and that's saying something because I'd have never thought I'd be saying that for a Fifa game ever. What EA have done deserves serious recognition because it's just a technical feat for a football game that baffles me how they achieved it. Put it this way, it would take Konami at least 4 years to get to where Fifa 09 is at now.

While I think it is harder to score in FIFA, it is a tad easy with certain players.  Two that I can name are Ronaldo and Torres, their speed is extremely fast and the defence in this game seems to push up more then the previous ones.  A good through ball and some smart dribbling will almost always result in a breakaway goal.  Although the goalies are A LOT better at saving things now.

FIFA stole the main developer guy from PES like 2 years ago. Coupled with more money for R&D or whatever and you have a superior product.  I still think FIFA needs the Argie league and needs to find a way to put in the real netherlands players on the national team instead of fake players.

Also, in the old manager mode there was an academy that would randomly give you talent, I think they took that out and now its only foreign scouting.  Also there used to be international call ups in manager mode that would take your players out for international breaks (although it wasn't nearly as frequent as real life) and the players would come back slightly fatigued or even injured, but sometimes with increase in attributes, I think they should bring this back but do it full scale with WC qualifying, friendlies, and the ability to become an international manager (although this doesn't seem likely because they like to come out with spin off games for the world cup and Euro championships)  I also wish you could play reserve games (if you wanted to).

I laugh when people say stuff like this, and I find it hard to believe as well. 10-0 against Arsenal on Pro for your first game, or very little play time? I doubt it. If teams like Wigan can grind out 1-1's against me in the league on Pro, and I wouldn't exactly say I'm :censored: at the game either, then I doubt you found the game that easy to put 10 past Arsenal. If this were Fifa 97 or something, I'd well believe it. It's not impossible to beat a team large in the game, but 10-0 is stretching it a little. I need proof.

EA didn't steal anyone from Konami. The main dev that makes PES is called Shingo Takatsuka or Seabass. He's the main man that conceived the series, and without him PES wouldn't have been what it was.

Fifa only really started to take the reins from Konami after they developed their new engine 4 years ago, but the fruits of that engine have only come ripe over the last 2 years, first with Fifa 08 and ultimately Fifa 09.

It's had two influential devs: one was Joe Booth and he worked on 08. Unfortunately for fat Booth, who is a Leeds fan, was more concerned about pies and 100000 calculations per second when you hit the ball, all of which are bollox in terms of pure gameplay where it matters. The second dev is Dave Rutter, who was the mastermind behind 09. Nothing to do with anyone at Konami. Just Rutter taking the game and the engine by the balls and producing a game that it had been promising for a few years. That's all there was to it.

Seabass has publicly stated that he would love to have EA's amazing engine. When you get someone like Seabass saying that, you know he's got nothing revolutionary planned to better it and that his series is f*cked. Next year, PES will more than likely be killed off. Really, Konami should just give up the ghost now, because it's not going to better a game as realistic as Fifa 09 is. They just don't have the recourses.
