And what have you based that on? A 2 minute glance at a newspaper rag which has 'interpreted' Babels coments, or on his actual talent?

Babel is far from either of those insightful descriptions you have labelled him with. Tbh Stu, I would have given you more credit than to post a narrow-minded opinion such as that.

No Feeney, It has nothing to do with what he says in the press mate. I don't make a habbit of having a go at players (or even managers) for what they say in the press. If you look at all the threads about such and such said whatever its rare I will comment on that sort of thing.

Its about the constant :censored: he produces on the pitch mate. He's a poor player, everyone seems to think because he's big, quick, strong and black he's the new Henry or some other obscene comparrison. When the fact is, he's nothing more than a lower than average ability player with a few quality attributes which occassionally help him to produce a good performance. I've often seen him try to control a ball and it goes 10 feet in the air from a standing pass, thats poor technique, I can't even do what I've seen him do by trying to do it. He also can't take a ball on the move and hardly ever makes the correct decision when he gets the ball.

Occassionally aswell he shows good feet, that again though doesn't make him a good player. He often picks the ball up and runs into players... like physcially runs into them and tries to knock them over instead of going past them. He also picks it up and holds onto it to long or picks it up and runs down a blind alley where he's simply crowded out and has the ball taken off him.

These are not things that at 21 years of age he'll learn to correct. Riera has come over mate, and thats a quality player who needs to adapt. A player who's improved the team and looked class in parts. Babel's simply never had that impact. Lets face it, if he had, we'd never have needed Riera in the first place. As for him being a Striker, don't make me laugh.

In my eyes he's never been a permanent fixture at left wing and the signing of such would have been required anyway -  which would put him at right wing or upfront. Right wing at the minute is pretty much sewn up by Kuyt (who I admit, isn't a right winger but no-one can knock him as he's playing well and scoring goals from there), which leave's he has to currently get in ahead of either Keane and Torres for a place - which is difficult by anyones standards.

I do concede that his touch has left a lot to be desired recently and for a player of that standard it should not let him down in such a way. I'm a big advocate of match practice and no matter how much training you do, nothing can compare to the experience you receive when playing, which includes things such as touch, skill and decisions. Make a bad touch in training and it doesn't really matter and you get away with it. No such luxury on match day. That only comes with consistent playing time - something which Babel hasn't had this season.

For the record, I don't believe he will ever have the finesse of Henry - that just doesn't happen that often for it to apply. I would have his main qualities as pace and shooting power and accuracy, with the latter being the one that I believe had Babel have played more games, we would have seen more and turned results such as last weeks draw against Fulham into a win. I am a fan of his directness towards goal (again, I will concede that when he's come on he's found more dead ends recently, again I put that down to impatience rather than poor judgement), which is something I think we may be missing this term and is the reason why we arn't killing games off the way we should.

Guess all i'm really trying to say is that if we give the lad a decent chance in the first team, barring the odd bad touch in the first couple of games (!) - I don't think we will be dissapointed with the end result and that some of the flack that he has received is unjustified.

So we give a player who half the time doesn't look interested a run of games just to come back after 10 games on the spin and say, he just needs that first goal.

People compare to him to Henry - well that's an insult to Aresnal's all time record goalscorer. A more fair comparison is Anelka aka "le sulk". Babel seems to sulk a lot, never seems to be arsed giving his all in any game other than those against the other teams in the so called big four and Champions League matches. I can safely say here and now that Babel is a "glory hunting player". Wherever the world's cameras are and wherever the praise is biggest, he'll perform.

Last season and this prove that. Last year he got ten goals, half of which were in the Champions League. This season he's been :censored: other than score against United and win a penalty in a Champions League game. You look at his performances against Crewe and Spurs in the Carling Cup, he couldn't give a toss. Thinks he's too good for that because "that's only" the Carling Cup. Well news flash to you Mr Babel and any fan who thinks "it's only the Carling Cup" it's another game for Liverpool Football Club and whichever players are picked should show as much desire and determination to perform in those games as they would in the Premiership. Same goes for fans, you should be as guttedly disappointed if we go out of the Carling Cup as you would if we went out of Europe, just like if we win you should be over the moon, because if we got to Wembley in the Carling Cup final you'd be out then giving it the "big I am" wouldn't you. Well try supporting the lads through the early rounds and not shrug it off as "it's only the Carling Cup."

Nasri is as inconsistent as babel the only difference is that he actually plays week in and week out for arsenal , a good performance one every 3 games or so . Babel needs to get a run out of games like nasri is getting at arsenal . If babel was at arsenal , he'd be 5 times the player he is now .  :nod

Not even a comparrison with Anelka. Anelka's twice the player Babel will ever be.

I've been plenty critical of Babel this season but he barely had any time to make an impact tonight so cannot really be criticized, IMO.  The lads got him the ball all of two times and he had a proper go on one of the two occasions.

Agreed. But he and Torres are the only two players capable of taking on a man and beating him. Pretty lame, eh ? Compare that to Arsenal, ManU or Chavski....how many of their players can take a player on in the last third and beat him ?

No he is actually fantastic player. Remember goal against Mancs, goal against Chelsea,Arsenal. He is :censored: better footballer than Yossi Benayoun, better than 90 percent of our players. And he is not regular. Rafa showed on Ryan Babel all his weaknesses as a manager. Good player on the bench, slow poor footballers on the pitch, giving 20 milion quid for new almost 30 year old striker, and again, better footballer on the bench. I appriciated Rafa, even  we play constantly ugly football, but after this case with Ryan,he showed himself as a very poor and stubborn manager

spot on .

Keane and Babel should be upfront against blackburn . I don't think he has disappointed when he has been played as a striker . Chelsea the little cameo appearance where he caused terry all sort of problems . He won us a penalty against OM while playing upfront and last season in the champions league a brilliant goal .
