Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby sparky1970 » Sun Aug 22, 2004 10:15 am

I wonder if you agree that a lot of tv pundits and most of the newspapers have a desire for rafa to fail i have read a number of stories in the papers, one is the english backbone being taken out of liverpool, and that real madrid had more english players, yes owen, danny, etc have gone but have been replaced with better players, and they have forgot to mention kirkland, carra, gerrard and the rise of warrnock, potter etc into the first team.
you never seem to hear this about man u,arsenal, chelsea who are full of europeans, brazilians etc and have very few or no local lads in the first team, any opinions

They tend to be biased toward whoever are the 'big' clubs at the moment.  So arsenal, chelsea and man u will obviously get the better and nicer press coverage.

I often find myself reading the press convinced every article is written by a skum supporter. Even the idiot who writes the predictions on teletext each week (calls himself the 'guvnor' - say no more) is blatantly anti-Liverpool. Just have to bite ya lip. Sunday Times sports supplement is the best sports read of the week and stays pretty objective. Express is probably the best of the tabloids for sport in my opinion.

Yeah I read the Guardian too, I think they tend to take a step back in terms of all the baggage that accompanies football although they can be a bit sarcastic at times. Lets face it the big three are expected to be in and around the top and fancied for all competitions and they prob currently have the highest level of interest amongst the general public thus it is important for them to be bias as it serves their own interests.
However I personally find that the tabloids generally have particular journalists quite open and honest about their bias. Oliver Holt in the mirror supports the scum but Im loving his work at the moment as he is aslo their biggest critic and sees their downfall. Another guy at the mirror (I know its a ****** paper but Im an old leftie) Mc someone is the betting expert and is totally biased towards us as is that Maddock guy.
Cant comment on any other tabloids though they are bad for your health and I keep well away.
The man who came to merseyside from Newcastle, the man who says he's part of Liverpool as much as the Liver building. When he was needed Alan Kennedy was there. And with now just 8 minutes to go it could be that Alan Kennedy has made a little history.

I live in Cork, Ireland where Roy Keane, Denis Irwin and Liam Miller are from.  As a result our local paper is completely biased towards the scum.  If Roy Keane blows his nose, it gets a headline on the back page.

I don't pay attention to the papers, the papers are not a source that I trust or bother to read, they are 90% wrong of the time.

i dont care about english heart, as long as there is liverpool heart there. look at players like hyypia, dudek, riise, all commited to liverpool without a doubt, even gerrard houllier showed a genuine love for this club and respect for its traditions. i dont care where players are from as long as they show pride in a liverpool jersey

News have become a commercial commodity and it can be manipulated to stir sensationalism which in turn help the sale/circulation.

Rafa likes to work quitely, hence he does not make a good news item as there is nothing to sensationalise. In their speak, he is "no news", not exciting and nithing to write about. Liverpool has a large following and the sooner Rafa is gone, the more likely Liverpool will be a news item once more. That is the media's take with theit stance on Liverpool FC right now - my opinion.

What do we do? Read/consume with a very large pinch of salt and take no notice.

Actually i think once Rafa has engineered the team to EPL and CL glory we will become a "news" story and your probably find more written about us then before.
The news is always going to concentrate on winning though there does always seem some bias to Liverpool.
The other thing i dont like is when pundits are waxing on about Manure and their achievements as if Football league and European glory never existed before the start of premier league

I read the Mail but its football 'pundits' (lawton in particular)are so pro Chelski its unreal. If you remember it was the Mail that was putting everything behind Gerrard going to Chelski and really pushing for it and when he said he was staying at Liverpool they startted the 'threats to the family' rumour. They tried that one with Owen as well.

I guess I am a wee bit luckier than you, Boocity, that I don't reside in the British Isles, and only get to read these papers on free internet. i have lived in England before, and used to miss reading interesting articles in the papers but the advent of the internet has changed that...

I read mixed reporting on Liverpool but mostly are articles of bad tidings and "doomsday" type as we are supposed to be in turmoil with the loss of the so-called English and local core on Murphy and Owen, and also a contributing factor is Benithez style of not saying much to the press. In F1, you'd notice a very negative reporting against one Michael Schumacher because he keeps winning yet give so little words and emotions in press confrences.

News sells, and if there is nothing is forthcoming from the horse's mouth, the journos will conjour up something to make news on us, the more sensational the better for them.

Totally agree with most this thread, the press are absolutly gaggin for Rafa to fail, this sellin british b0llocks what people go on about is garbage, heskey was always gonna go (and was sold by houllier) we were never gonna win the league with murphy in are team and we were held to ransom by MO, yet no one mentions the fact that arsenal had one englishman in there team and every youngster they sign is from abroad, also i thought we were excellent on saturday and watched the football first thing on sky sports to see are performance again and trevor francis talked the biggest load of sh!te ive ever heard and give baros stick 4 everything he did......Also did anyone watch soccer saturday cos i got told that tommo was on it and he was a very bitter man and totally slaggin us off???
Chopper:Look, you're not still angry at me about the leg, are you?
Neville Bartos : Nah, forget about it.
Chopper : Because I don't know if you remember, Neville, but I had that bloody shotgun pointed at your head. I reconsidered and dropped it down to your kneecap. Remember?
