It was more down to Alonso coming on IMO, Lucas always looks a different player when played with Alonso because he`s given the ball further up the park.
I`d like to see him loaned out because he`s got no confidence and is scared stiff of making a mistake, which is why he too often puts it sideways or back where it came instead of trying a more risky pass.
I`d like to see him have a season at spurs under harry, a more arm round the shoulder, motivating type.

We are not rich enough to be spending 8Mil on a player to then loan him out.  :D

Just sell him already.

But bav the lad hardly gets any footy, for us or the ressies. I think a large portion of the fee was down to potential but all we are doing is holdng that potential back like we have so many times before.
How can you expect the lad to improve when he`s without regular footy and when he does get a game he gets jib from his own support, I`d be hiding too.
The fact we invested 8m is surly more reason to help his development by getting him regular footy at a decent side for a season.
Had we loaned sinama and warnock we could have saved our selves a packet.

We cant afford to give him regular games though.Break him in the odd time like Rafa has been doing, yeah. He got another chance today. But in all honesty IF he was a quality player,or even a quality player that was suffering from lack of games he would be showing more potential than he has done!
I've said it before,Rafa has put together a very good and capable of beating anyone first 11!But once ya look by them,we are seriously ropey!Too many players not enough quality, even as back up.
Two serious long term injuries to any out of,Torres,Carra,Gerrard,Alonso,Masch even Kuyt and we'd be fuc, ked! We need to work on building a squad yes,but Id rather have a squad with 28 when you can rely on your fringe players than a squad of 40 when half of them are not fit to play in the championship!

So whats the use of buying young players if we cant give them any kind of footy?
Why not send em out on loan?
How can a player improve and gain confidence without playing?

Well when all is said and done, it wasn't a bad result as we haven't lost any ground. Yes, it would be nice to now be 2 points clear, but Chelsea fans will be thinking the same.

Another bend in the road...

If these young players we buy are gonna make it,they will show it in games!
Lucas has had lots of chances and I have yet to see him play well, maybe apart from against Marsielle last year(if i remember right)
My minds been made up on Lucas long ago and i feel Rafa is giving him chances more in hope than anything else.If he's still here next season I'll be disgusted. On the other hand If he turns into a footballer fit of the shirt between now and then I'll happily be told I'm wrong.
Not the worst player in the squad but he's been given chances above better players IMO.Just dont think he's good enough and ever will be.

this feels like a loss more then a win as we should be taking advantage of our rival's failures. just because they draw too doesnt mean it is ok for us to draw. just because the season hasnt ended doesnt mean its ok for us to relax and play with no passion.

The last time Chelsea dropped points we didnt take advantage. But we have another chance next week so lets wait and see what happens. Arsenal have a point to prove and we all know on their day they can play anyone of the park even away from home.

Re Lucas maybe loaning him out is an idea for him to get games but like number 9 says if he was good enough he would be showing enough in the chances he gets to warrant a regular place in the 1st team. When Stevie and Owen were coming through the ranks they were not loaned out to get games. They showed enough potential and marked their spot in the team.

If we have to sell to buy then I cant see Rafa loaning him but if things change in the summer and Rafa is given a kitty then I say still loan him out to somewhere in Italy or Spain where he can maybe play better there than over here and then sell him for at least what we paid. If we chose to get rid of him now we wouldnt get even 5mil for him. To be honest even with Babel and Pennant we are not going to get anywhere near what we paid. meh

Mate that is so harsh, how can a young player from half a world away turn into a good/great player without regular footy?
He wasnt bad when called on in big games last season like away to the bitters, inter, chelsea, arsenal was he?
The only regular footy he`s had was at the end of last season when top players were getting rested for the last 5-8 games due to CL, not a bad run we put on though was it? And Lucas scored and assisted in goals playing his prefered possition.
In Lucas I see lack of minutes and confidence being the main issue`s and he not really going to get that with us and a tense anfield and the odd boo is just confounding the problem.
Selling is an option but I dont see the point, young players need football. You cant sign a promising younster say at 18, keep him on the bench for a season or two then expect him to be a better player when he does get a game, because he wont be better he`ll  probably be worse.
I`m not just talking about Lucas, we`ve got loads of these young lads who should be getting proper footy somewhere at this stage in their development.

I only seem to post on here when we've done :censored:.

I only seen the second half today, but Robbie Keane is really starting to :censored: me off,

I missed the chance he had in the first half,(which i've heard was another sitter),  It was that half chance in injury time which drove me mad.

fair enough, he did well to pluck the ball out of the air in the first place, but once you've got the ball under control, if you have your back to goal, with a defender behind you, the first thing you would do is look up, if our number 7 would've looked up he would;ve seen one of the world's best strikers open and in space right in front of him,
But no, Keane tries an audacious flick over the defenders head, which predictably didn't come off.
WTF

We can't afford luxury players in our team

I am phuking livid, i hope Rafa is,

every other regular starter is playing at a really high level right now,

It worries me that it is Keane's tranfer fee £20M FFS, that is keeping him in the team,

Would he still be in the team if he was a free transfer?

Hows about buying Geovanni, Robinho, Owen. plz

Yanks get yer hands in yer pockets.

Robinhio goal today. exquisite

Drawing at home to Stoke and Fulham (with the worst away record in prem) is woeful.

Stop relying on Gerrard all the time, and Rafa please dont play lucas in the fist team again Rafa. costs us points every time.
