Reina

Arbeloa       Carragher       Agger    Aurelio

Kuyt          Masch            Alonso    Riera

                Torres            Babel

3-0 , ryan babel brace and torres to open the scoring . I don't think keane or stevie will be fit enough to start . The worrying thing is that masch and alonso will sit too deep and not push up like stevie does . We need an early goal than it could be a thumping . Fulham are poor away but they could do a stoke on us , just hope everyone brings their scoring boots along . Special praise to arbeloa , i don't really rate him but he has been superb this season probably the most consistent at the back , bar the wigan game .

Babel as striker?  I think you got the scoreline right, but this is Rafa we are talking about  :D

Fair point, but I wouldn't bet on it.  I too would like to see babel given a chance, works wonders up front in FIFA 09  :D

Nah. :no  What he's "got" to do is shut his gob, get his head down in training, bide his time on the bench and, when he eventually comes on as a sub, focus on making a telling contribution.  If he does that 4 or 5 matches in a row as a sub he might earn the right to lead the line in our first FA Cup match, when we opt to rest Torres.  Based on current form and attitude, he hasn't remotely earned the right to start and I'd have serious reservations about partnering him with Torres even if he were doing the business.

i wouldn't put babel upfront for this game... I think if keane is fit, he'll start alongside Torres, and if not, benyoun might just get a spot in the centre behind the striker, especially as Stevie isn't playing.

If i was getting a bit part role too i would be annoyed , i know babel should have kept quiet but he does have a point as well . He's done well so far this season coming on as a sub and he played decent against spurs where the whole team lacked fludity and drive but we scored from 2 of his corners . Lets see what he is made off and throw him upfront for a change where he feels he is the best . He's not a left winger and why rafa persists on playing him there only god knows .

I guess we see things differently then, mate, because for me:

1) the team's doing just fine without him starting and I don't think messing with a winning formula to accommodate one player makes any sense whatsoever

2) his form this season has been decent at best and dire at worst, which means that I don't think he's earned himself a start.  In particular, I found his performance against Spurs in the cup to be fairly poor.  He put in two crosses that a competent keeper would have dealt with and otherwise did virtually nothing.  As a senior player fighting for a place in Rafa's first-choice 11, it was a fairly insipid performance, TBPH, a not one we should be rewarding with a starting role.

If Gerrard and Keane are both unfit I would like to see Lucas given a more advanced role. Lets see if he's got it. He always looks to me like a player that can link up in a more advanced role. He can play one -two's and has a good eye for a subtle pass, WORTH A CHANCE!

                         Reina
Arbeloa   Carra             Agger        Aurelio

               Masch       Alonso

Kuyt             Lucas              Riera

                    Torres

Obviously if either Gerrard or Keane are fit I would play them in place of Lucas.

Its a good lineup that s@int, though I would still go for a 4-4-2 formation against teams like Fulham at home. If keane is unfit, I would stick pennant on the right and torres and kuyt as strikers.

So not a fan of Babel then, but you always liked Kuyt even when he was :censored:.
You cannot use the last game against Spurs as a yardstick because all the players were dreadful in that one, I actually think he was one of the better ones.
I would love to see Babel given a chance up front but Rafa will never ever do it, far too stubborn and stuck in his ways, he'll probably start N'Gog, that lads class and proven up front

Don't think we will see Torres and Babel start a game up-front together during Benitez's entire time at the club. You only have to look at the way he sets his team up to play to see that it will never  (or is extremely unlikely) happen. As for people being upset with Babel, i don't think he said anything out of order, just a bit of whinge that he isn't playing but hardly a tantrum so I don't have a problem with it.

I think Keane will be fit for this one (i'm sure that's what was said when he was ruled out for the Irish) and we'll see him and Torres resume their partnership. Rafa's selection gets a lot easier when Gerrard is out of the team, he no longer has to try and squeeze 3 into 2 in the middle and Gerrard is the only tried and tested option to play that free role behind Torres. I'd put money on the team being the usual back four (including Aurelio) with Masch, Xabi, Riera and Kuyt across the midfield and Torres/Keane up front.

I fancy a 2-0 myself and i'd be plenty chuffed with it...

I think the other big 3 have quite tough games this weekend, there could be an upset, so it could be a good opportunity to move more points clear, should be straight forward for us, but then it's Liverpool
