Yes it happens Jo, football is like that. Not one of his better matches tonight, but there you go. In fairness he wasn't on his own either it has to be said.

alot of let downs from him today mick, his first touch (well always) but mostly his distribution has been a let down for him today.

no, he didnt play well,, his first touch let him down and he was back to snatching at shots.... missqueing them or just lacking lackin a cool head.

He must be so fed up.... hes on better goal scoring form than Keane but bcos we dont have a world class winger he has to play out there instead. If we had Ronaldo for instance... would we be playing keane or Kuyt up top... Kuyt on current form!

Keane would get the nod for potential alone.

Kuyt cant win the poor fella.

Kuyt's run of good form which is reliant completely on his goals will end sooner or later. It might last another 2 matches, it might last another 8 but sooner or later he'll stop scoring goals and the same glaring deficiencies he has in his game will become ever more apparent. I think Kuyt is a solid player and he does have his strengths but I don't think he'd be anywhere near the first team on Man U or Chelsea.

If he's not scoring, I still think he gives the team very little of note. His goals have earned him all credit, and rightly so. They've also masked a lot of his usual performances for me - he's been in outstanding goalscoring form, but not necessarily great form overall.

His first touch was terrible last night.

Bigmick - Well done for trying to make sense of all this. I have always been a fan of Kuyt even before his Liverpool days. As much about his caring character as anything else - just a downright good lad.

I agree he has had some awful games for Liverpool but I also feel that his mind was somewhere else. Ok I fully accept that he is a professional footballer and that he should not be affected by outside influences. He did however have an incredibly close relationship with his Dad and it was an extremely difficult time for the family. Hopefully Dirk is becoming to come to terms as much as he can with the tragic death of his Dad and can look forward to enjoying more footballing success.

His performances overall haven't been that different - so the difference is that he's been scoring goals.

I genuinely hope it continues, because otherwise we're where we were last season with him.

Dirk Kuyt was voted Liverpool's star man during October by fans who took part in our online poll.
The Reds number 18 scored four vital goals during the month and scooped 35 per cent of the vote.

Spanish ace Xabi Alonso finished runner-up with 25 per cent of the vote, while Steven Gerrard was third with 16 per cent.

August's star man: Pepe Reina.

September's star man: Steven Gerrard.

October's star man: Dirk Kuyt.
