Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

im glad that the match took place after midnight here in Singapore coz it meant i could just go to bed and hopefully wake up feeling better the next day but i was so wrong. i didnt wanna wake up. i didnt wanna see anyone or chat to anyone. my caramel popcorn didnt taste as good as before. etc. the defeat stinks for sure and the only way i would be able to feel better is when we win our next game.

this is a game where we should have won, we fell apart after the Keane sub and Carra's own goal. Kuyt was amazing today and Riera too though he was at times selfish. Alonso and Arbeloa were losing too many balls. the subs Benny and Babel were useless. we would have been better off if Sami had come on instead.

either way, as disappointed as i am, fact is, we arent out of the race, we are still joint top, we have a run of easy games which we should pick max points up before our Arsenal game. hopefully Arsenal does us a favour and beat Manure as they are catching up frighteningly fast and with a game in hand too. we're all down after defeat...we just have to fix ourselves and try to get over it. if we cant get over it, at least give the team full support irregardless. it is perfectly understandable to be down after this defeat as we are getting used to the ''winning mentality'' but to say we are out of the title race is not true. its way too early. we may win it this year. or we may get into the Intertoto cup. its too early to call but last time i checked the table, we were joint top with a team that we beat AWAY already.

Spot on , exactly how i feel . It's a bad loss but it happens , people my say that keane going off was not why we lost but when he was on we were making passes to and through him , he was tracking back and i am a bit surprised that rafa took him off .

The problem was NOT with who Rafa substituted and when, the weather, the Redknapp effect or whatever other straw you want to clutch onto. It was simply that we didn't convert many of the chances we made after the initial goal by Kuyt. We hit the bar once, the post twice and the hapless Gomez pulled off a couple of decent saves and that gave Spurs hope even though they were (like on Wed against Arsenal) outclassed.

How we respond to this loss is important and I fully expect that Rafa and the backroom staff will be working on the players but to be honest as anyone will tell you who has played competitive sport, you don't really need to be lifted when you know you have played well as we did today. The players will know that this time they were unlucky and are unlikely to play as well again and get beat. The mind games only start to bite when you have played badly and lost so I wouldn't expect an adverse reaction to be honest.

We've rode our luck this season at times and it ran out tonight. Time to eliminate luck and play your way back to winning ways.

Chelsea responded to their losss last week by winning 3-0 away at Hull and 5-0 at home today against the Mackems. We need to do the same and I think we will because this Liverpool team is as good as any that Rafa has had since he joined.

Walk on ..........

Spot on, as usual. :nod

I think the players have to take what "blame" there is for this defeat. We need them to start taking their chances......we had enough to win this game comfortably!

I really think we need someone better than Benny to come on when we need to change the game though.

I would level some criticism at Rafa, quite often he simply rings the changes and last night was just one of those nights where he changed almost for the sake of it. Babel I could understand as he can make an impact off the bench, a proper striker for Keane would have made more sense and why Benayoun?

We did lose because we couldn't make most of our chances and the spudz made most of their luck. spudz seem to do everything late under Redknapp, they posed one serious goalthreat and that proved to be the winner. However the tactics and substitutions can also make a difference, while I'm not one for playing Keane "until he comes good" and certainly not his biggest fan, I'd rather have him and Riera on the pitch for all round work-rate, ball retention etc than Babel and Benayoun. Rafa has a fetish for almost set substitutions, usually of wide players, full backs and Robbie Keane

Keane Sub/Subbed

Played : 17
Started : 13
90 mins : 3
Came on : 4

80-90 mins : 6
60-79 mins : 6
30-59 mins : 1
0-20 mins : 4

Keane played 490 mins in his first six games, 82 mins average. Since then he's played 538 mins in 11 games, 49 mins average. He is paying some price for not scoring enough goals, however if I was going to take Keane off last night it would have been later than 2/3 of the way through the game. Rafa loves making substitutions around that time, I wonder sometimes if it isn't almost random - bar the untouchables of course

Of course I have been saying a lack of goals will ultimately cost us, thankfully only any points last night, but we can't keep winning by the odd goal and expect to challenge for the title. People have been itching for Rafa to include Keane with Torres, in his absence Keane needed to make more of a mark and his two goals to date have contributed ONE point in the Champions League.

Congratulations to Dirky boy on becoming our top scorer. Just a shame noone else could squeeze one in. I also said that we need more goals from the likes of Alonso, shame his heading isn't better even though you have to give him credit for getting into that position. Does beg the question why it was him, a midfielder, in that position and not a more attacking player..................

To be fair, I think it was gonna be difficult for Keane against Spuds yesterday but I don't understand the reason for subbing him. Nor do I understand the reason for bringing on that tart Benayoun. I really, really, really, really don't rate him at all...Do I make my point clear ? What the hell does he EVER bring to a LFC side ? At least with Riera you know what your'e gonna get and it's usually infonitely more productive than Benayoun. Don't know who else was on the bench but the subs don't seem to have been inspired choices.
All ofthat said, it was just one of those days where the lads looked a bit too eager and desperate for a second goal - some of the "attempts" on goal were pretty lame all round. Mind you, I do think Bentley was pretty much allowed to roam where he wanted for their equaliser....pretty lame defending, methinks

Because playing with a single striker is useless for Liverpool. There just isn't the support for that kind of limited attack.

Personally, last night I'd have played Kuyt up top with Keane, with Pennant filling in on the left.

Ok I have had the night to relax and put things in perspective. It is not the end of the world and we are still second. Im still not happy with a few things: Dossena is he even good enough?, and our inability to finish chances when we needed it. But im not as doom and gloom as yesterday haha.

watched it in a sports bar down near wembley arena before lee evans live and it was so annoying, the amount of chelsea fans in there giving it the big one.
at one point some man (wearing a fake chelsea shirt i might add) walked past me and just goes "there you go mate, youve had your dream now it's back to reality".
being a bit drunk at the time i told him to politly :censored: OFF!

i then realised this man was the owner of the sports club and i got chuked out :D

5 games now in the league we must win! all 5 of them are games chelsea would win so we must to!

there is still a bad taste in my mouth after the game yesterday, but we now have a few very winnable matches in front of us and Torres to come back (and hopefully stay) fit. Its been mentioned that we've had a rub of the green a few times already this season so I suppose its a bit hypocritical to curse Spurs for being lucky. Lets be honest if the finishing had been up to scratch Spurs would have been embarrassed but I think it speaks volumes for the progress of this side that it hurts so much when we lose because we are now so hard to beat. One defeat is not the end and they're wont be many other sides that take the 3 points against the mighty Reds this season. Go out and hammer Madrid on Tues and yesterday will be quickly forgotten.

Chelsea are away from Blackburn. I haven't really paid any attention to Rovers this year but I dont think they are as hard at home as they used to be now that Bently has gone. Arsenal play the scum next week so fingers crossed they can pull their fingers out and win which will work to our advantage if we win against West Brom. We really need to make a statement of intent next week and hammer them. I remember we beat them 5-0 a few seasons back. A similar performance would be very welcomed.

Sorry but dont know where to post this but just a couple of crackers from Kenny on goals on Sunday.

Would this Liverpool team beat the 1990 team

Kenny " Yes"

Kamara " Really"

Kenny " well of course they would that team are all over forty now " Classic dry wit from Kenny.

Then how long is it gonna take for the Torres and Keane partnership to form. And how long does it take for a partnership like yous had

Kenny " well youve got to wait for the ref to blow the whistle"

But he firmly believes there gonna be great together.

Thinks were deffo in with a shout this year . You need to stay in contention by beating the teams around you at the top and weve done that with Man Utd and Chelsea so far.

Called Andy Gray Evertons biggest supporter

If anyone knows how to get the link up to watch it back it well worth it . Some classic stuff and some very funny quips by him.
