i dont think a scoring draw is out of the question for HULL, while we thump Pompey good style

Routine 9 points with only the game against Arsenal to be concerned about..... but you never know!

I expect Chelsea to take atleast 10 points from those games. Thats why every game is so critical for us. If we are not careful they could easily make up the 3 points they dropped against us.

As i said in another thread can see babel definatly being involved after the way he played on sun also dossena coming in and maybe lucas for xabi . if keane is injured then can also see pennant coming in .Can see Reira ,Xabi and Aurelio getting a break.

James as always kept his best for us like robert green as for arsenal . I'd make a few changes as clearly keane was not fit against chelsea . Babel did well when he came on ,. challenged for headers , matched up physically top Jt and showed that he was clearly interested , shouted at masch when he put in a poor ball , masch did not take too kindly to that however

. If Nando is fit enough to start than i'd be more confident , always worried when we beat a top team as we never get a good result the following game . Big sami back in to deal with the long ball game which pompey will deffo be playing looking for crouch . The pace of defoe is something we have to watch but pompey are in shock now , they've lost their best midfielder in the summer , muntari and now their manager . Head says 0-0 but i'm going for a 2-0 , babel and gerrard penalty

Former defensive stalwart taking control - that's that then, he'll go with what he knows first and foremost til he settles in and it'll be parking the bus time for them in his first game I reckon, almost certain.

Liverpool can build on that win at Chelsea.

They have had a really good start to the season, made very few changes, played quite attacking teams - Albert Riera looks like he is a good player - and have competition for places.

Portsmouth are obviously in a little bit of a lull because of the departure of manager Harry Redknapp but they have still got good players.

Verdict: 2-0

Jamie Carragher today played down Liverpool's position at the top of the league table and insisted: "That's where we should be."
Carragher - along with manager Rafael Benitez and so many of his teammates - is keen not to get caught up in the hysteria which followed Sunday's victory at Stamford Bridge, which saw Reds move three points clear of their title rivals.

And he insists the next challenge is to extend their unbeaten run in the league this season and look to strengthen their position at the top.

"We're not going to get too carried away – we're Liverpool," said Carragher. "Don't get me wrong, we're delighted with the win but we're not getting carried away at being top of the league after nine games.

"That's where we should be. We're a massive club with a lot of top players, so we're only doing what we should be doing.

"Chelsea hadn't lost in four years at home, and that's the first time I've ever won at Chelsea and I've been playing for 10 years now. It's a tough place to go and credit to them for their record, but I'm just delighted we're the team that has broken it.

"It's a great result that no other side has managed over the last four years, so it's something to be enjoyed.

"But we've got Portsmouth next, and if we don't get a good result there then we won't have really capitalised on this win."

Carragher added: "Being top of the league, we're now going to be the team people will look to beat.

"I'm sure people will talk about us more. We're going to have to deal with that now.

"But we've got a lot of experienced players, big internationals who have won trophies before. It's something we will have to handle."

Liverpool's next challenge is to take three points off managerless Portsmouth on Wednesday night before travelling to face Harry Redknapp's Spurs at the weekend.

"We've got Portsmouth next and then Tottenham, and there's a lot of stuff going on with those two clubs at the moment," said Carragher.

"You can never tell how they are going to react, so I'm sure the next two games will be tough, but we've got to aim to take maximum points."

TORRES STILL SIDELINED FOR POMPEY CLASH

Fernando Torres will again be missing from the Liverpool side which aims to maintain its lead at the top of the league table against Portsmouth on Wednesday night.

The Reds striker is still nursing the hamstring injury sustained on international duty earlier in the month and has been ruled out for the visit of Pompey to Anfield.

"Fernando is very close," said boss Rafael Benitez today. "Maybe he'll be okay for the weekend, but he cannot play tomorrow. "We will see how he is over the next two or three days and then make a decision for Saturday.

"We have some problems after the Chelsea game. You know Keane had an injury, while Kuyt and Alonso also had some knocks. We will have to check on them but I think they will be okay for the Portsmouth game."

Not really surprising that he's still out, and we should be able to win without him against Pompey. I do hope he's ready for Tottenham away though. That being said - and as has been mentioned a fair few times on the forum already - we shouldn't play him until he's completely fit again.

Kaboul to have a shocker, Riera to give Pamarot the run around, and Keane to score his first league goal.

If Torres is a risk, let him recuperate fully for the Spurs game.

4-4-2, Gerrard and Alonso in the centre, Riera left, Kuyt/Pennant on the right, and Benayoun up top playing off Keane.
