When asked whether he would follow Steven Gerrard and sign a new contract, Michael Owen yesterday told the press that he will not sign a contract this season.
He said that while he enjoys it at Liverpool, he feels that he needs to being playing against the top players in the world (nothing new about that).
He said that if Liverpool were winning the league on a regular basis he would entertain no thoughts about moving.
However, he said that if Liverpool failed to win the league this year (## ##, even Owen is slightly deluded here



I think that might focus the board's mind....it could indirectly lead to Houllier being sacked.
Think about it.
If Liverpool fail to qualify for the Champions League and Owen announces that he will sit on his contract and leave on a Bosman (worse case scenario), the board could face losing out on a potential £30million plus in transfer fees, panic, and sack Houllier.
