The boards seem quiet. - Where is everyone?

I've noticed of late that there is less debate on the forum than there used to be, and I'm fairly sure it's not my imagination. There's to tell the truth even less sh!t posts than there used to be, there's less of everything.

I remember posting stuff up and coming back half an hour later to find half a dozen or so well thought out replies (usually slagging off your point of view but anyway) whereas these days posts can sit there for hours without comment being passed.

Lots of posters only seem to come past either during a match or in the immediate aftermath of one, while many other people who's posts I have much enjoyed over the years, and who on occasion I've vehemntly disagreed with are rarely seen these days.

Why is it? Is it because boring feckers like me have gradually ground them into submission or sleep? Is it obnoxious feckers like Stu have gradually p!ssed them off too much? Is it argumentitive feckers like Peewee have argued them into oblivion, statistical feckers like Owz have fried their brains into soup, biased feckers like Sabes have Dora the explorered the forum into a kind of "boots haven", or analytical feckers like LFC have out analyticaled everyone? Or are major and much missed absentees like Ciggy causing others to jump ship?

Is it a question of the forum being too heavily moderated, too much laisez faire? Is it just the time of month, time of year or is all just a load of b0ll0cks (I probably shouldn't have put the last option in because everyone will go for that :D).

Anyway the forum is quiet, and I have a potential short term solution. I think the moderators (of which I think there six or seven) should all post more on football. They are all good posters, and at least if they did a couple of posts every day, it'd liven it up a bit. The rest of us could help by moderating ourselves and letting them get back to doing what they came here for in the first place.

The second part of my solution is simple. Ciggy should come back, the place is much the poorer for her not being here, and I would even go so far as saying that those who have been her archest enemies on here would probably accept that.

I didn't understand the comment about boots haven, so I searched my dic.

1. Dora the explorer 473 up, 52 down love ithate it

Literally an insult to ANYONE'S intelligence. This isn't for pre-schoolers, this is for people in comas. The show includes an annoying Spanish girl that constantly does dangerous, stupid :censored: and has parents that apparently approve of said dangerous, stupid :censored:. Way to teach the kids, :censored:. Then, as if they haven't been stupifying us enough with their inane :censored:, they ask the most obvious questions, and (in case you are blind or dead) point them out in the most obvious manner. For example, Dora asks "Where is Benny the Bull's farm?" Suddenly, the camera pans the the side until there is nothing left BUT the barn. Then, a tornado comes down to draw your attention to the spot where the barn is, while a giant flashing arrow points directly at it. And then, as if we (or the children, or whatever) were to dumb to find it, a shitty blue cursor "beats us to the punch" as the little bitch mockingly congratulates us on a job well done. :censored: you, you little :censored:! Also, Dora travels along with a gay little monkey (no offense intended, I'm just pointing out he's gay) that is literally incapable of anything but whinning and bitching the entire :censored: show. Then, at least once a show, they run into the residental badass, Swiper the fox, who steal items from them and conviniently tosses them into a pile of similar items - that is, unless Dora, Boots and of course, you utter out the phrase "Swiper, don't swipe it" three times, which causes the sneaky fox to snap his fingers mafia-style and run away like a pussy. Wow, a real gangsta, that one. If I was Swiper, I'd bite Dora's tits of and shove them down Boot's mouth. Then I'd break my own neck on a tree for being such a pansy. What a :censored: show.
HELLO, AMIGOS! CAN YOU FIND BOOTS?! THAT'S RIGHT, HE'S RIGHT UP MY :censored:!
*click*

I see, Bigmick, I see.

:D

Probably the questions you make must be answered by those that have been away or are away at the moment. I'm personally not sure why.

The Australian posters are probably all at Indy.

The English posters are probably all to busy moaning about the weather.

The Thai posters are probably all with their men.

The American posters are probably burying their heads in the sand until H&G feck off.

The Spanish posters are probably at war with eachother.

The French posters have probably just surrended their right to post on here.

The Swiss posters have stayed neutral and just continued to read the forum rather than posting on it.

The Welsh posters are probably sheering the wool off their beloved sheep for winter time, and getting a quick fix in before the Mrs comes home.

The Scottish posters are probably to tight to pay for the internet.

The Irish posters probably dont know whether their coming or going. (including Eire :D )

The South American posters are probably knicking a few kidneys off back packers, because of the credit crunch.

The African posters are probably breeding.

The Japanese posters are probably off killing whales.

And the middleast posters have probably fallen for the properganda that extreme Islaam has thrown at them, and are at this minute in a likely-ness straping a bomb to their body.

And Hemidall has probably got an audition for the Muppet show.

Lol Sabes, Dora the Explorer is my little girls favourite programme on the telly. For those of you who haven't got little little kids, "Swiper no swiping" won't mean anything, but to those of us who have, it does :D

Anyway, she talks occasionally in Spanish, so the kids can count to ten in Spanish, uno do tres etc etc. There is a character in it anyway called Boots, and I kind of thought it had kind of Spanishy football connotations. Anyway, the more I go into this, the more I think it's time to call off the dogs. The reason people don't come on here anymore is most likely the first reason I offered on the topic starter

Class. And I'm sure he won't mind but at the Heimdall one ..  :D    :buttrock

Since we're on the subject and at the risk of making myself look like a c... as it's a character in Battlestar Gallactica or something, what or who is Heimdall?

Heimdall (Old Norse Heimdallr, the prefix Heim- means home, the affix -dallr is of uncertain origin) is one of the Æsir (gods) in Norse mythology. Heimdall is the guardian of the gods and of the link between Midgard and Asgard, the Bifrost Bridge. Legends foretell that he will sound the Gjallarhorn, alerting the Æsir to the onset of Ragnarök where the world ends and is reborn.

Heimdall is described as being so alert that he requires no sleep at all. He can hear the grass grow and see to the end of the world; he can hear a leaf fall. Heimdall is described as a son of Odin, perhaps a foster son. Heimdall was destined to be the last of the gods to perish at Ragnarök when he and Loki would slay one another.

Is deffo quiet in here these days although I'm a classic hot and cold poster meself depending how busy work and life is at the time. Good shout on the mods posting more. I really can't see the attraction of being a mod if i'm honest. It seems to mean you go from being a decent and regular poster to someone who spends their time on here cleaning stuff up and more often than not, getting whinged at!

Interesting if not, given the author  :D  , an unsurprisingly repetitive  thread, ie The State of the Forum Today.

Nevertheless, despite Big Micks fascination with revolving doors, he has once again, as he often does, raised some interesting questions.

Having been alternatively entertained, angered, bored, interested and sometimes just thrown into fits of laughter by this site for the last five years  I feel obliged to respond to at least some of Big Micks  points.

I've noticed of late that there is less debate on the forum...............Why is it? Is it because boring feckers like me have gradually ground them into submission or sleep?

No, your epistles are usually self depreciating and generate decent debate.

Is it obnoxious feckers like Stu have gradually p!ssed them off too much?

Unfortunately, based on "reports to the mods" I would have to say yes but have to add it's not just Stu.

Is it argumentitive feckers like Peewee have argued them into oblivion

See my previous comment.

statistical feckers like Owz have fried their brains into soup, biased feckers like Sabes have Dora the explorered the forum into a kind of "boots haven", or analytical feckers like LFC have out analyticaled everyone?

Not in my experience. Owzat provides some interesting detail, easy to scroll past if it's cooking your brain. As for the others ? regular members , a laugh, an insight, an invitation to reply and no problem.

Is it a question of the forum being too heavily moderated, too much laisez faire?

:D , You were once a mod Mick and you more than most appreciate the "damned if you do , damned if you you don't" mantra. When we take our hands off the wheel the cry goes up "where the fk are the mods" when we get stuck in it's "Lookout ! here come the thought police !

Anyway the forum is quiet, and I have a potential short term solution. I think the moderators (of which I think there six or seven) should all post more on football. They are all good posters, and at least if they did a couple of posts every day, it'd liven it up a bit.

Can't speak for the rest of the mods, but just checking the forum and dealing with all the shyte leaves you with little time to get involved in any serious discussion.

The rest of us could help by moderating ourselves and letting them get back to doing what they came here for in the first place.

Nail on head.

The second part of my solution is simple. Ciggy should come back, the place is much the poorer for her not being here, and I would even go so far as saying that those who have been her archest enemies on here would probably accept that.

Think you are wildly overestimating the character of the members who drove Ciggy and several others out of here in the first place.
