He was and never will be prolific but neither was Crouch and he scored some important goals as does Kuyt. 3 million or maybe a free wouldnt be the end of the world and I am pretty sure we could match the wage he is getting at Wigan without damaging Raffas January transfer kitty to much ???

Des' I think the comparison in terms of being prolific is fair with Kuyt, but Crouch scored fairly regualrly when played. Now I know Owz will be on and quote a goals to games ratio which will include the first 17 games or whatever it was before he got up and running, and will also include games in which he came on as sub with three minutes to go, but in reality Crouch scored goals.

He has started to score regualrly at pompey in the Premiership too, and I have no doubt he will continue so to do. Although Heskeys "linebacker" physicality suits the style which Capello has been using for England (which incidently I quite like and I think is quite innovative), Crouch is much the better striker. Also, if we are talking as a striker, without wanting to get swarmed over by a pack of numpties it goes without saying that Crouch is in a different league to Kuyt as well.

All that said, there is definately something in your idea of having Heskey as an impact player, or to cover for injuries. We could do with him this weekend for instance without a doubt. I'm not sure though that he'd go for it, and on balance I don't think we should either.

True enough the point about Crouch being the better striker Mick, what I was trying to say was, he could have the same affect by coming on as a sub ( desperation maybe ) and just mixing things up in the games where we need to try something else maybe not scoring himself but creating a chance for someone else. I didnt mean it to sound like I was comparing the two of them. I am not getting carried away by the rave reviews he is getting for his England performances but like I said , if its not for silly money then I would have him in the squad.

If he comes on and goes down under a shoulder challenge from SWP or maybe Aaron Lennon it creates another goal scoring chance in what could other wise end in a draw or maybe even a defeat

He was just showing a few press reports about heskey and a desire to return to Liverpool, and also mentioned a comment from rafa about needing a target man and saying he would be interested in heskey.

I think he is playing very well at the moment and of course we can have a good look at him tomorrow.

So heskey, yes or no? I would like to see him back, what about you guys

NOOO!!! Please tell me why worst nightmare isn't about to come true!! it was one of the happiest days of my life when we sold Heskey, surely he can't come back?! Let's be honest, he's Frank Bruno in a football shirt. You might call me fussy but I like my strikers to score goals!! He just doesn't do that and never has on a regular basis. If he created the goals he does as a midfielder I wouldn't mind but he's a striker. His lack of goals puts added pressure on his partner to make up for the goals he doesn't score.
He should never have got within a million miles of the red shirt once, let alone twice. he's nowhere near the quality of players we should be looking to sign.

I agree with most on here when they describe Heskey’s last stint as a failure....simply he wasn’t good enough.

However, I think Rafa will be looking at this differently...we have Voronin on the books and are obviously looking to get rid next summer. Possibly...Rafa is looking for a cheap (very cheap) 4th striker and maybe Heskey fits the bill.

He would replace Crouch
He is cheap/free
We could put him on a 1 year deal and lost nothing

NO, NO and NO! Surely this is a joke.

Heskey is rubbish, I don't care how cheap as chips he maybe, he is pure and utter :censored:. I still have fits of rage remembering him fluff up all his chances, none more so that that open goal against Manure a few years ago.

The jokers on this forum who want him must be taken out back and shot in the head. Your kidding yourself if any of us are going to take you serious from now on if you want this piece of rubbish back at our club.

One of the posters said it and I will repeat it. If Heskey signs on the dotted line you can rest assured Rafa has signed his own death warrant. ALL aboard on the looney train to Wearefarkedville. :veryangry

Please God NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Heskey was complete garbage before and surely we can find a better second striker somewhere else. FFS why can't we try one of the youngsters, anything but Heskey. This must be a wind-up.

Amazing what happens when you put in a performance in a national shirt isnt it? The best way to settle this is, discount the England games, and lets look at how Heskey has performed for wigan this season. Would he be a good signing?

For me, no. Tried, tested, and failed.

The reason heskey is playing well is because he is at a club which plays him regularly and also to his strengths...

If he comes here....beneitz will screw up his confidence by (take your pick)

1)Not starting him for most of the matches....he won't even make the bench for some matches (ie.....pennant)

2)Dropping him when he scores his 1st goal or is in a rich vein of form (Keane, crouch)

3)Play him as a LW (crouch, gerrard)

And lets not forget the fact that..... he scores even less goals than kuyt.....

A big NO for me...
