Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

This is very good news. From LFC.tv.

XABI ALONSO was heading to Merseyside today to undergo a medical ahead of his £10.7m move from Real Sociedad.

Liverpool face a race against time to complete the deal in time for the midfielder to be eligible to face Manchester City. Alonso will have to complete his medical, and sign and receive international clearance before noon tomorrow to make his debut at Anfield.

That's unlikely and the trip to Bolton is now a more realistic target, but Rafael Benitez will be delighted to secure the services of one of Spain's hottest properties.

Yeah, its very satisfying. I was creamin' it incase someone came in with a last ditch attempt to steal him from us. But it looks like we have got a firm grip on him now, so im relieved to say the least.

Im also looking foward to see if we can snap up Garcia, its also looking promising. When Nunez is fit there will be great competition for the right wing starting position, otherwise we could rotate them to keep both parties happy.

There aren`t mentioned price or or leangth of the contract.
VG says this news was broadcasted by Sky sports now tonight. Can anyone confirm this?

I`ve just been on an official Real Sociedad-site where he is shaking hands with some dude. I hope it is him saying goodbye, but since the text is in Spanish it might just as well be him taking on a bet with a poker-friend. Maybe our spanish friend could be of some assistance here?

The Real one is within me. It has been thus during all my life and it will always be thus. I want to be thankful to the liking, to all the people who have supported to me and who have animated to me in these five years. I would like that that support and that spirit, continue being the possible maximum for the group of companions who is going to initiate the new season, because they and the Real Society deserve it.

I initiate another stage in my life. With new objectives but with the same illusion of these last five years. I go to the Liverpool, a legendary club in England. A club that has known to be understood with me and the Real one, and that offers a unique opportunity to me to progress in the world of soccer. I hope that the things go to me well and to be able to share with them, and also with you, the good march of my new equipment.

"the Real one always will be your guide". Minutes before taking leave publicly in front of mass media, Xabi Alonso has received from hands of President Jose Luis Astiazaran ' makilá, a cane of enormous root in Euskal Herria that the Real Society has given to him in signal of gratefulness by the five years that has remained in the club donostiarra. This amulet, with epigrafe mentioned-above, is offered habitually to the people who let belong to the equipment donostiarra.

The maximum leader txuri urdin, at any moment visibly moved, has wanted with this traditional flattery to wish the best thing him for the future: "I give this ' makilá to You so that it moves away to you of all the negative and offers all the luck to you that you deserve yourself for the future. You know that the door of the Real one always will be open for you ' ".

This was on a Aussie soccer site from AFP sources
Great news especially the 5 year contract if true

Alonso reveals Liverpool move
AFP

Real Sociedad midfielder Xabi Alonso says he has sealed a transfer to English Premiership club Liverpool.

"I'm going to a club with a lot of history and a great present," Alonso told a press conference in San Sebastian, in the presence of Real Sociedad president Jose Luis Astiarzan.

The cost of the transfer for the Spain international was not revealed. Spanish media reported that the 22-year-old had signed a five-year contract.

Alonso, whom Liverpool's new Spanish manager Rafael Benitez has been chasing since he took over from Gerard Houllier, will join up with injured compatriot Antonio Nunez who sealed his move to Anfield on Tuesday but hurt his knee in his first training session.

Benitez has also brought 24-year-old Spanish defender Josemi to the club, while Michael Owen went the other way, signing for Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, two Spanish sports dailies report Barcelona have reached an agreement with Liverpool for the transfer of midfielder Luis Garcia.

Marca and Sport claim that the deal has already been agreed, although Barcelona are yet to make an official announcement.
