How Old Are you ? 28
Where do you live ? Liverpool
Why did you start supporting Liverpool ? My Dad and cousins (and pretty much my whole family apart from a couple of stowaway Blues) supported Liverpool. I had no choice but didn't want a choice. There was only one team for me after watchng the 1986 FA Cup final on telly. Ian Rush and Kenny Dalglish were just so charismatic, the best two players in the country up front, that you HAD to support this side. Liverpool were my first love. I had the original Grandstand from that afternoon on tape until about three years ago when I moved house and lost it. The pundits at half time were Terry Venables the Barcelona manager, Andy Gray who was the shyest prick you've ever saw back then (yet biased towards the Blues) and Emlyn Hughes who was typically biased towards the Reds.
Favourite Moment on the Pitch ?
I wasn't there for either night but the home semi final in 2005 against Chelsea isn't too far behind Dudeks penalty save from Shevchenko. I wish I could remember those moments in clarity. I wish someone would have had a camcorder on me and the company I was keeping that night. Unforgettable moments, yet all I remember is running round with no direction and screaming. Since then, Steven Gerrard's FA Cup final equaliser was fucking unreal. I said it then and I'll say it again now, you'll travel far to see a better goal than that for what it meant. Last minute of the game to bring your side back from inevitable defeat? Thank God for Gerrard...
Worst Moment on the Pitch ?
There haven't been too many personally. I was at Wembley as an eight year old to see Wimbledon win the FA Cup final. Only been the FA Cup final that one time. Watching United tear us a new arsehole these last few years has seriously fucked me off though. We're missing out on the odd league titles because of draws or defeats with our so called main rivals every year. We need to start nicking points from these and I don't want to tempt fate but we've done the business so far this season...
Fav Current Player ?
Not really one. We've got captains all over the park. But you've got to feel lucky that Fernando Torres plays for us? Two stories to tell you. My mate came back from the match a week or two back (may have been the Stoke 0-0 game, whatever anyway) and Torres did something great and all you heard from one fella in the crowd was "Get in Torres you fucking sexy bastard...". I was laughing my head off at getting told that by my mate, never mind hearing it. It came from the Kop if anyone was there that day.
Also, this is from last months Liverpool Way fanzine to which I get deliverd to my door as a subscriber. Last season when Torres scored that belter against Arsenal in the Champions League when he had his back to goal and spun the defender to stick a bullet in the top corner, some fan at home (like we all did I'm sure who didn't attend that night) started jumping up and down, screaming like a banshee at the top of his voice. His wife came into the room and gave him down the banks, "Why are you shouting so loud for, you idiot? You've gone and woke the baby up!!!!"
This guy looked at his wife, pointed at Fernando Torres on the telly and shouted at her:
"Do you see him on telly?"
"I'd leave YOU for HIM!!!!"
Fav player of past days ?
Easy. Ian Rush. A big shout to Robbie Fowler as well.
If you could change just one thing about club what would it be (except change owners cause think everyone wants that )?
Hmm. Having thought about this, I'd like more home grown players from the academy coming through, and particularly more Scousers in the team. But I'm a realist. I know that unless they're of the calibre of the lads that came through going back over the last ten to fifteen years, particularly McManaman, Fowler, Owen, Carragher and Gerrard, they're going to struggle to get into the first eleven. Good luck to the lads though, would like to see a proper look at Nemeth and how he copes in the first team. Hoping he gets a couple of Carling Cup games this year if we progress through the rounds.
Best thing about the club ?
Our fans. You really have to be at Anfield especially when the chips are down to see that we are the twelfth man. I love the way we clap the opposition when we realise we've been done, the opposition keeper always receives a welcome, the banter, the humour, the shouts from the nutters, the rapport with the players, the stories you hear on the street... It's us...
