liverpool are in the news right now because we are having a very good start to the season and there are murmerings that we might just have a go at it this time. therefore there has to be at least one liverpool story in the football press every morning, even if it isn't based on much. this is today's story.

18 months is plenty of time to get a new contract sorted out. its not as if he's losing transfer value and will be eventually be free to leave on a bosman.

I won't be the one who denies that the press has tried to unsettle Liverpool in the past, and they probably still do.

And I'm the first one to want Rafa staying here longer as I think he's the right man, but I'm very worried when I review the Klinsman incident, when I review the refusal to bring Barry, when I review when he was told to focus on coaching, and when I remember he left Valencia for less than that, I can't help to be worried about his future here, regardless what the press say.

I think that the only reason so that Rafa stays are the fans, the supporters and the city, because the environment has been quite insulting for him.

If he doesn't win the league he'll probably leave. If he wins the league, it will be the time for Rafa setting conditions to stay. But if I had to bet, I'd say that he won't stay more than this season :(

not sure i'd agree with all of that. Remember he is settled over here, his family are all settled, he is earning top salary at a top football club. He has passion for the fans, the club, the city.

If he leaves it wont be of his own accord. He certainly wont leave because if he doesnt win this seasons premier league...

...but he may be pushed

I'm of the same opinion Lee, contract expiration aside I can't see him leaving in the near future for any reason other than conditions have made it intolerable for him to carry on, not sure however what Rafa's definition of intolerable would be.

In the Oliver Kay article he say's

“I have always said I want to stay here for many years and I have the same idea now.”

I believe him

Im a big Rafa Fan - got no probs saying that . I hope and think he will land us trophies in the future and hope he is given the chance too . Sometimes his methods work sometimes they dont - The zonal marking system everyone ripped apart first season then when the players got used to it we became one of the best defences in the league and europe and all of a sudden people shut up about it . Rotating is something that all managers do - the difference between us and others is the standard of players that rafa could rotate - that standard seems to have improved this season . And i understand why he does it to make the team stronger in the second half of the season and from  results seen in second half he has been proved right - its just having the quality and results to get us to xmas that has let us down and hopefully we can change that this season and have a proper crack at it this year .

Hopefully im lookin at no new contract for Rafa yet as a sign that there off soon. And the new owners will offer him a long term one, I didnt believe the bulls.ite Hicks came out with months ago about not being able to offer him an extension until he was in full control.

On the other side of the coin though 18 months is not a long time left. Wed be screamin if one of our top players had that left on his contract an no new can we have a chat about about a new contract was going on.

Rafa wants to stay here you can see that so as i said im just hoping there going soon

Practice what you preach wont ya !  :no

Get a grip , the poster wasn't slated for having an opinion, it was the opinion that was slated, hardly cause for spitting dummies.

I thought your posts quoting Peewee were out of order too.
Go back and read them.

Re. Rafa's contract: I don't think this is something to be too concerned about.
It's not the same as a player's situation - add to that the fact that Rafa
wants to stay (or so we're lead to believe) - not worth worrying.

This may invoke abusive responses, but Rafa has to mount a serious title challenge in the next 18 months and if he doesn't he may well be out the door by then anyhow. So why offer a man a new contract if you may want rid come May? MAYBE, just maybe, the owners don't fancy giving a contract to the manager who hasn't proved himself (in their eyes if noone elses) capable of winning the Premiership. The outcome could simply be a bigger compensation package if they want rid any time between now and his contract expiring. I'm sure he'd love to stay, however I'm guessing (some) fans will want him out if we end up well short of a title challenge this season. There are some who will cite that same old "fergie" comparison, not that it bears any comparison since football has changed a lot since 1986 - and even since 1993. (when we sign Ronaldo and Fabregas for around £15m each then I'll believe Rafa can do a fergie, since that is more or less what he did signing Keane for £3.75m and Cantona for around £1m from the defending champions)

So maybe biding time isn't the worst thing in the world, if things are going as well as we, the owners and Rafa hope then his contract won't be an issue.

Your emo is showing, lad.  Cards are for abuse...not for questioning why someone would interpret a news story as coming from Rafa.  Read the thread back and point out where any "violent verbal wars" took place...I must have missed them. :no

Didn't you profess a love of emo in the Fit Birds Zone a few weeks back? :D  In any case, there wasn't anything remotely violent about the exchange.  Another mountain made out of a molehill, I'm afraid.

As for out-of-line Mods...Supersub takes us behind the woodshed when we're bad.  The man's lethal with a paddle!  :oh:

I think the end of the season is when any contract negotiations should be done. I want Rafa fully occupied thinking about how we can improve our title tilt, not on whether he will get a 3 or a 4 year contract. Hopefully before any negotiations are started we will have changed owners anyway, and they may have their own ideas about Rafa and the future of LFC.

Lets see how we go this season, a title win and he can write his own ticket, a painful collapse and no title challenge and maybe all he will get is a one way ticket back to Spain.

Why tie ourselves into another long contract when everything is up in the air at the moment?  Once we have new owners they will certainly want a say in who is going to spend the money they will hopefully pump into the club. Hopefully that someone will be Rafa but with 18months still to go on his contract there is no need to decide now. Even Parry can organise a new contract in less than eighteen months .......well maybe not Parry :D
