What do you love most about our manager - Personality

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby metalhead » Fri Oct 03, 2008 10:19 pm

I was snooping around on RAWK the other day and saw some members discussing different opinions on what they most love about our manager, so I decided to start a thread about it here, mostly about his personality.

I love his passion, his commitment and his f*cking stubborness!! :D

He is class!

Personality?

I love that he doesn't take seriously journalists. Perhaps if he was more árse licker to the journos he'd be treated better from London, but he prefers to be obsessed about football. I like that aura of football maniac he has.

I too like the commitment to the club, so far. I'm afraid though that if he doesn't win it this year he'll be off.

I like that he praises the players who need the praise, and doesn't praise the players who don't need it, as if that was precisely what they expect from them -- excelling.

I preffer his respectful nature to other managers rather than the Mourinho approach. I always have.

All that and above all else...his Humility. The lack of any ego (displayed) and his empathy with the supporters, alongside being one of the top coaches in the game the fella is, or at least comes across as, a genuine and honest master of his art that 'perhaps' has found a spiritual home in Liverpool. He has a great sense of wit and humour about him as well...really endearing qualities. As a man-manager? Well, thats another debate entirely.

The way he answers some of the questions.

someone said before that a journalist asked him why he didn't celebrate Babel's goal against the mancs, he told them 'I was thinking of making a sub.'

or calling everton a ''small club''

He learns from his mistakes and isn't too proud to admit when he was wrong. I honestly never ever thought he would change and stop styling and rotating. I guess I was wrong about that too.

Love that post, probably because I sincerely agree with it.

What I like mostly about him is that he comes across as a football nerd instead of being obsessed by himself. He treats football as a team game and no one is bigger than the team. He is not afraid of speaking out against anything that he thinks is wrong.. the owners etc. He seems like one of those guys that you wouldn't mind marrying your sister.

yeah I love the way it only took 4 years for him to realize it doesnt work, while those of us who know nothing because we are not managers and dont have uefa licences pointed it out 3 years ago

I love the fact that he is shows no emotions whatsoever whatever happens to his team. I also love the fact that he takes no great interest in his appearance hence the goatie. Mostly though I love the fact that he must be one of the luckiest managers of all time and that it actually rubs off on our team.

I love that he can still wind the likes of Heimdall and Peewee up five years on. :D

TBPH i couldnt be happier with our manager. He is just such a classy guy.

One of my favorite all time Rafa moments was him sitting cross legged in a penelty shootout so that the fans behind him could see!

Yes I think he has many qualities, but in all seriousness to dump the "Rafa style" after four seasons takes incredible courage I think. He is now embarking upon a methodology which is completely alien to him by all accounts, but he has seen the evidence in front of his eyes and been big enough to embrace the concept.  For this reason alone, I would definately give him another season after this one.

He must know that to some extent he is on a hiding to nothing. If he fails whilst not styling, he'll just be an average manager who doesn't deserve another season. Not only that, but he'll be an average manager who didn't show the courage of his convictions, who allowed himself to get swayed by the criticism. If he succeeds, he'll have people asking the question why he didn't ditch the mass rotation previously, did we waste four years etc etc?  He's put the club above himself in that whichever way it pans out, he's going to get it in the neck. I think what he has done has taken enormous courage, and I will respect him long after he has gone for the decision.

Edit-I had a bit in here which wasn't needed, Rushies quoted it later on if anyones interested.

Firstly mate this isnt a thread on rotation its a what do you like about Rafa`s personality thread.
Secondly, even though ive never been a hard line pro rotationer your constant jibes like the one above is starting to get on my wick, what exactly do you want from them? I could answer that for you but i`ll leave it to your eloquent self.
Also bearing in mind the folks that have been backing the boss, steadfast this past few years are the "in Rafa we trust" lot, so they`ll back him when he rotates and when he doesnt wether they think its right or not they`ll get in line behind the boss.
Your a quite repetitive bloke arent ya Mick?
" now no ones saying we should play the same team in every game "  :D

I`d echo that but also add dignity. Also you`ll never see him attack a ref, a fellow manager or player and he`d never blame a defeat on the colour of our tops.
His focus is always 100% on his team and his fans, and IMO he`s a total cut above in that respect. :)
