Unless we are in the final I dont give a :censored: about this cup. Rafa should continue using reserves until the semis.

Reserves vs a Tottenham starting XI, that should be close.

Derby County just beat QPR.... I don't think they are winning anything lol.  Derby is terrible.

While it runs at the same time as the CL of course it will be given tertiary importance behind the CL and the Premiership - hopefully not in that order mr Benitez. It is a bit of a farce, the big clubs play their kids and if they do progress it makes a mockery of the competition.

All the talk preseason of kids on the bench for the Premiership with seven subs :-

vs Bitters : Diego, Lucas, Aurelio, Hyypia, Agger, Babel
vs Stoke : Diego, Benayoun, Mascherano, Lucas, Agger, Degen, Babel
vs Man Utd : Diego, Dossena, Torres, Gerrard, N'Gog, Hyypia, Babel
vs villa : Diego, Agger, Babel, El Zhar, Aurelio, N'Gog, Benayoun
vs Boro : Diego, Agger, N'Gog, Plessis, Aurelio, Babel
vs Sunderland : Diego, Agger, Aurelio, N'Gog, Skrtel, Alonso, El Zhar

Strange that El Zhar's fallen out of favour, is he injured?

This wouldn't even be a fair contest if it was starting 11 v starting 11.

I still reckon the 2nd squad could run the spuds ragged.

I was lead to believe by a number of people that we'd see some of the kids on the bench, real kids not multimillion pound signings. Nemeth and all that lot, the ones that come out for the Carling Cup and not just the Olympians who cost a packet - the names you cite cost around £40m between the four

I was just saying why El Zhar wasn't in the mix any more. It was because he wouldn't have been in the mix from the start if we had those 4 from the start of the season.  I think it was more that the people who thought Rafa was going to use his two extra slots for kids instead of including more of his fringe, must not have known Rafa very well.

I was however, very disapointed with the bench against Everton. Why was there a need for Hyypia, Agger, AND Aurelio? Especially when Carra could play right back in a pinch, and Arbeloa could play left back. That means that you only need 1 defensive sub and you can pretty much cover any injuries that happen. And as far as "going defensive" to help hold on, I can only see us ever taking off one midfielder/striker for a defender.  We are never that desperate to hand out, and Rafa would much rather kill a game off by getting that 2nd or 3rd goal than putting in an extra defender.
