The fact that some of our best players--including our two world class ones--couldn't find a way through is deeply frustrating but not utterly disastrous. If I were a betting man I wouldn't be putting too much money on Torres, Gerrard, Keane, Alonso and the rest all forgetting their shooting boots on the same afternoon again.

Agreed on Torres and Keane Bob.

At the moment we still haven't lost a game, have beaten United and haven't lost any ground at the top of the table. We may not be playing to our full potential, but if we still haven't lost any ground when Torres and Keane start to hit form, we could be in for a good season.

We haven't lost a game....... just failed to score in half of them. Two of our goals have been own goals, only one of our forwards (Torres)has scored and Kuyt hasn't scored a league goal for 26 games. But there's no problem.......... everything will magically work out and we will walk the league same as we do every season.

LIVERPOOL and Everton are set to do battle for Michael Owen as his Newcastle career remains in serious doubt.

The Merseyside clubs both made tentative approaches for the striker during the summer and are ready to step up their interest.

Owen’s future on Tyneside is still shrouded in uncertainty with his contract now in its final year.

He has yet to commit himself to a new deal with Newcastle in a state of disarray after the exit of manager Kevin Keegan and with owner Mike Ashley seeking to sell the club.

Owen will be free to talk to other clubs during the January transfer window and will be available on a free transfer next summer if he lets his contract run down.

That will open the way for Liverpool and Everton to make their moves.

Either could snap him up for a knockdown fee of around £4million during the window or wait until the end of the season and get him for nothing.

There is a strong lobby of support within Anfield for their former striker to return and Owen would welcome the chance to return to his first club.

But Everton will provide serious opposition, having tried unsuccessfully to complete a deal on transfer deadline day.

I love to have owen back... but the only problem is that if he comes here he won't be starting every match... if he goes to the bitters he will be if he's fit... it will depend on what he wants I guess... a striker of his finishing ability is always a boon to the team... rafa should try to get him back but at the same time he should be prepared to come off the bench...

for the original topic, IMO, it's high time we switch it back to 4-2-3-1. Let Keane come off the bench. It will relax him and he will do better that way. explained my opnion in the other thread our best eleven or something like that.

stick with it until we start scoring freely again and watch out for keane's form... once he gets better maybe we can switch back to 4-4-2. The reason for advocating this 4-2-3-1 is not because I wanna play Kuyt of course.

but it's based on the concept of gerrard's 'free role' and also it seems to be a lot more flexible and less predictable formation FOR US than the current 4-4-2. The wingers in this formation can join in the attack without having to be too defensive minded and we essentially have 4 attackers. Or they could player deeper and we'll essentially clog the midfield to make life difficult for the opponents.

bigmick's version of 4-4-2 is also a viable option with gerrard on the right. at the moment it has to be this 2 options and nothing else...

Very disappointed with the result, more disappointed with the manner in which we didn't revert our tactics. Obviously, our needless long balls across the pitch in their half was to spread their defense, but then the crossing delivery was nothing short but disgraceful. We were wasteful, we have no set plays, and when a cross finally made it into the box, Keane was nowhere near the box, Torres was double teamed, and the ball was often defended very easily. The long shots by Gerrard, Kuyt and particularly Alonso in the first half, were absolutely horrendous and more often than not, never troubled their keeper. Over than the dropped 2 points, the way we kept pressing and keeping control of midfield was excellent. We defended well at times, and there are many positives to take from this game.

Are we still going to be competitive come May? We are still top, and very much a contender. All negativity on these boards are not new. There are a lot of passionate support out there, but also a lot of bandwagoners who have come onto these boards since Istanbul. I still can't believe PeeWee hasn't been kicked off here yet.

People expect success, but the team, especially the new boys up front, are still learning how to play off each other. I also think the game showed that we are desperate for Keane to get off the mark, which is a worry seeing as he cost more than Crouch, he is a proven scorer in the Premier League, he would have ripped teams like Stoke would he have been left alone up front. We need to be more selfish in front of goals, take more risks, be more inventive, and not just rely on wayward crosses, hopeful balls and Gerrard/Torres to get us out of trouble.

I Dont think we have won a game with that Mariner, he didnt even go to the linesman and ask him why the goal was disaloud.

Ive never seen a team play at Anfield with 8 fuckin over 6 foot centre halves, we could still be playing now and we wouldnt still have scored.

I was gutted after the game its what it could have been if the goal stood it would have been a rout because their Plan A, B & C would have gone out the window.

I was angry and upset like everyone else after the game but get called a happy clapper Im not happy that we dropped 2 points no one is.

But to blame Rafa after he played a really strong attacking team is wrong, he can't win can he?
And then people spout rubbish like he sold Crouch, Crouch wanted to leave Rafa didnt want him to go he got offered more money to stay infact.

It was just one of them days every team has one, but our squad is a lot stronger now we do have better players and its only a matter of time before Keane starts scoring.

We had 13 draws last season so far we have had 2, last season if we would have won 4 of them games we would have won the league.
So all is not lost we didnt win the league last week yer no.

We wont draw 13 games this season and the mancs had less points this time last season and won the league.

Its going to be a good season for us give the new players time and for Torres to get fit again and we will be on a roll.

Nothing like respect for the opinions of others is there.

Owen was not a traitor, he simply moved away from the club.

Had he been able to stay fit he would now still be one of the leading strikers in Europe - And for the record I would take a fit motivated Owen over Keane any day. Not because I dont rate Keane, because i do - but Michael is the better player IMHO.
