Could've been so different back then if the board had backed him for Sheringham instead of getting "I love to go Dogging" Collymore.

Fowler Sheringham would've brought home the title I'm sure!!!

Okay, Souness was not the right man for the job, the club got complacent and obsessed by keeping it in the 'family' so to speeak but I also remember that about this time there was some European dictate that said that only a certain amount of players can be foreign when playing in Europe and they were going to include Irish, Welsh and Scottish players as foreign. This was one of the reasons he ripped up an aging squad so quickly but with the Bosman ruling all those rules went out of the window.

Or something like that.

Collymore had all the credentials, unknown to the Reds he was a nutter and didnt actually value playing for us. Wasted gift.

I agree Collymore could've been worldclass but he wasn't Evans first choice

Thats because he had a certain Robbie Fowler in the team.

First choice signing to partner Fowler!

Evans wanted Sheringham but the board said 7m was too much for a 28 year old......so he bought Colymore instead
