Please though, until we've achived that at the very least once and probably more times than that, lets compare the manager with managers who he stands sensible comparison, ie Houllier, Evans and Sounness.
I agree with your point about not comparing the manager to the league winning managers... but talk about comparing like for like... houllier, evans and sounness never won the CL... surely benitez should be considered a more accomplished manager than all 3 of them and to compare him to them, maybe with the exception of houllier, is a bit of a disrespect especially, evans and sounness. Houllier, fair enough, won alot of trophies with liverpool... so he's more of a 'sensible' comparison...

Absolutely Mag.. come on Mick, CL win FA cup win, league final appearance and CL appearance again .. Rafa perhaps stands alone for now in terms of comparitiors.. I would say that his task is like that of Shanks.. establishing LFC as a league force once more.

On one forum Paul Tomkins is held as the greatest reporter this side of Pluto, while on here people want him hung, drawn and quatered. Personally I take everything he writes with a pinch of salt but he still writes sense with love for this club, which is really a rare thing in today's media.

He writes things in favour of the club so that what he does write is highlighted on LFC's official site. Read the forums, disagree with anything with the club on there and your slated for it. Support or sod off is the motto of LFC.TV.

Sorry Zara, for me absolutely no comparison whatsoever holds water between Rafa and our manegerial greats of the past. He still has the opportunity of course to write himself into those history books, but he is a country mile away from being sensibly compared to the likes of Shankly and Paisley and Dalglish in my opinion.
I appreciate people want to support the current manager and talk him up, and I fully respect that and don't wish to disrespect him in any way. Similarly however, I think the previous managers mentioned deserve the utmost reverence, and to compare them to a manager who in four seasons has never once even challenged for the title, not even for a little bit, is IMHO to diminish their contribution to the history of the football club.
To me it's like comparing Ron Atkinson to alex Ferguson, Dave Basset to Brian Clough, Mike Walker to Howard Kendall, Bruce Rioch to Arsene Wenger.
If he can challenge for the title he has done a good job. Even that though wouldn't be sufficient for me to talk of him being one of the greats, he'd need to win it, and more than once to prove it wasn't a fluke.
Like I say, lets compare him with Houllier that's more sensible. Houllier did the treble or the quadruple or whatever it was (probably the quintet if you include the Masters as well) and Rafa won the Champions League with a team which included eight Houllier players or whatever it was. I think Rafa is a better manager than the Frenchman but many will debate and dispute that. At least there is a debate though. Once we get onto the Dalglish, Paisley and God forbid Shankly comparisons we are IMHO anyway in cloud cuckoo land.

Well call me old fashioned but I always thought on a Liverpool Football Club based forum or Liverpool Football Club based site the general idea was to support Liverpool Football Club. Maybe the times have changed and now instead of supporting the club, it's time to shoot down people who tend to look at things in a slightly more positive way.
Tomkins may very well take things that bit too far for some, but at the end of the day, he's still writing about Liverpool Football Club (our club - I assume you support this club as well) in a way that shows it's not all that bad.

Absolutely. I will always support this club. But on the main site, you cannot question rafa as it is frowned upon, and mention of the owners, well your treading thin on that ground on the main LFC site. And this is where Tompkins scriblings are read. If he strays from upsetting the main site then not as many people read what he puts. As they are not put forth.
