I think they had no real striker on the pitch for a number of minutes! (Apologies to the Kuyt Brigade).
That was a lucky win at the end of the day and Marseille were very unfortunate not to be 3 goals up at the end.
Reina saved the bacon.
On a positive side Babel showed clearly what he could do and I think he should get (and needs) regular League football. He was decent in front of goal and was denied by very good goalkeeping. Mandanda's save in the 2nd half was spectacular and alongside Gerrard's crazy goal was the moment of the match for me.
Riera too showed again that he was Rafa's best buy of the season. He's shaping up nicely and I'm surprised he didn't start. I think we may see a difference in that "going forward" (I hate that phrase). He's really opened up Liverpool's opportunities on the left hand side and the much maligned Kuyt had a decent game.
However, Liverpool are still giving the ball away far too easily and it remains uncomfortable to watch.
Happy, but still very worried. I can't help wondering how long the spell will last.
Tony
Sorry mate, "very worried" about what??
The team looked tired tonight and we was up agaist a very lively and pacey side... that we beat.
What are you very worried about?
Did you expect a better start to the season?

Team performance - 2/10
Defense - 4/10 we didnt concede in the 2nd half so..
Midfield (with kuyt)- 3/10 did very little to create chances or even pressure opponents higher up the pitch
Attack - 3/10 missed a few good chances ... nothing special all in all
Kuyt 0/10
lost every freaking ball he received i kept an eye on him and i think he only completed 2 or 3 passes, 1 of which was back to reina from the halfway line.. everything and i mean everything broke down when he got on the ball... awful second half and one of the worst iv seen of any player in a liverpool jersey in recent times
Babel missed a sitter that he should have converted but did okay overall.. like the fact that he's direct and can actually use his speed to help our counter attacks when on the ball . lost possession a few times when he could have done better !
Lucas and Mascherano were poor.. benayoun didnt do anything of note coming off the bench..
Riera looked very promising again; looked like he could make something happen out of nothing..
Arbeloa .. a couple of mistakes but one vital tackle , average overall... dossena looked poor again and hasnt done anything so far this season to suggest that hes anywhere near as good as Aurelio or Riise.
Reina... brilliant.. simply brilliant... man of the match for me with his 2nd half display
Torres, Gerrard, Keane didnt do anything in the 2nd half so cant really comment on how they played..

But the stats dont look good, if you believe them, we were played off the park.

Our zonal marking system was exposed by the pace of their forwards though.
Not sure I understand what you mean mate, our offside trap was beaten a couple of times but the zonal defence (from set pieces) looked ok, mainly due to Carra like.
Did you mean our back line/offside trap was exposed?
Good result, cant argue with a away win to kick us off, unlikely we`ll have to many problems now.
The team looked shattered to me, Macsh in particular was well of the pase and having Lucas next to him didnt help.
Babel had a good game IMO but to be fair their defence was all over the place.
Riera again showed the kind of touches we`ve been missing, Arberloa again looked like a weak link, almost costing us the points getting court the wrong side and giving a player a free header 5 yards out, which he really should have scored.
We deffo signed the wrong Cheyrou, that lad really looked a player, two good feet and was involved in everything good they did, maybe a cheaky 4/5mill bid in Jan,i reckon he could be the next Zidane

Shame that your only commenting on the 2nd half cos we were pretty good in the first
I certainly agree with the kuyt bit in the 2nd half though, I wanted to kill him, the 1 thing we needed to do was keep the ball and every time he touched it he gave it away somehow, same with Lucas

couldn't give a monkeys about stats to be honest. it's about putting the ball in the back of the net at the end of the day.
