I'm scared that I might be turning into a happy clapper , I actually thought we played well tonight. You have to remember that Marseille are a very good team and a lot better than they were last year. Stevie's first goal was fantastic and we could easily have had a few more goals with a bit more luck. Overall 3 very important points especially considering Atleticos win.

Game of 2 halves really - took our foot off the gas in the 2nd half, sat back a bit.

A win's a win and we are making a habit of winning games that could easily go the other way.

Reina was superb tonight.  Handling was flawless apart from the very first cross which he dropped, and he made a few very good stops.

Gerrard - what can you say?  I actually don't think he played that well and didn't seem to do much tracking back, but his first goal was something else and he showed great nerve to slot 2 pens past that keeper, especially when he missed one against him there last season (and was lucky to score the rebound).  But that's what he can do when half fit and playing out of position, top class.

Torres isn't at his sharpest, Carra made a bad mistake for their goal, Skrtel was at times rash, Dossena was badly out of position at times (I think he was the cause of a lot of our trouble in defence to be honest), Lucas was sh.it (but good when it came to picking out players in Marseille shirts), Babel should have scored 3... I could go on.  It wasn't a great performance by any means, but we showed good dig and held out for a good away win, I'm happy with that.

was a good match glad we won. stevie scored a brill goal. Just a point to note. Babel plays like a donkey at times the amount of times he loses the ball is unbelievable. Whenever he plays i have seen him do that alot.

Our zonal marking system was exposed by the pace of their forwards though.

Not sure I understand what you mean mate, our offside trap was beaten a couple of times but the zonal defence (from set pieces) looked ok, mainly due to Carra like.
Did you mean our back line/offside trap was exposed?

Good result, cant argue with a away win to kick us off, unlikely we`ll have to many problems now.
The team looked shattered to me, Macsh in particular was well of the pase and having Lucas next to him didnt help.
Babel had a good game IMO but to be fair their defence was all over the place.
Riera again showed the kind of touches we`ve been missing, Arberloa again looked like a weak link, almost costing us the points getting court the wrong side and giving a player a free header 5 yards out, which he really should have scored.

We deffo signed the wrong Cheyrou, that lad really looked a player, two good feet and was involved in everything good they did, maybe a cheaky 4/5mill bid in Jan,i reckon he could be the next Zidane  :D

I thought Dossena looked a bit shakey at times too. Gave the ball away on more than one occasion although his level of shitness was overshadowed by Lukas.

Happy with the win, but really appalled at the Liverpool performance. In the second half Marseille were the better side, by far and this was compounded by some extremely odd substitutions by Rafa who looked to be thinking that a win was in the bag at 2-1!

I think they had no real striker on the pitch for a number of minutes! (Apologies to the Kuyt Brigade :)   ).

That was a lucky win at the end of the day and Marseille were very unfortunate not to be 3 goals up at the end.

Reina saved the bacon.

On a positive side Babel showed clearly what he could do and I think he should get (and needs) regular League football. He was decent in front of goal and was denied by very good goalkeeping. Mandanda's save in the 2nd half was spectacular and alongside Gerrard's crazy goal was the moment of the match for me.

Riera too showed again that he was Rafa's best buy of the season. He's shaping up nicely and I'm surprised he didn't start. I think we may see a difference in that "going forward" (  :D  I hate that phrase). He's really opened up Liverpool's opportunities on the left hand side and the much maligned Kuyt had a decent game.

However, Liverpool are still giving the ball away far too easily and it remains uncomfortable to watch.

Happy, but still very worried. I can't help wondering how long the spell will last.

i don't get lucas at all. with people like babel and kuyt you know on a good day they bring something extra to the team. i'm still waiting to see lucas best so i can gauge if he is in form or not.i can't tell if there is more to come from lucas in a few years time or not.everybody i speak to is really impressed by him but i feel like the odd one out.

Just one question here.

Did we not have Carlsberg on our shirts cos teams aren't allowed to have alcoholic
beverages advertised on their shirts?

If so, couldn't we "hire" the space to others companies?

Even if Carlsberg have the rites, we could cut them a share

Sorry mate, "very worried" about what??

The team looked tired tonight and we was up agaist a very lively and pacey side... that we beat.

What are you very worried about?
Did you expect a better start to the season?  ???

is anyone else noticing that we're starting to become the comeback kings? I mean take a look, Middlesborough, goal down, come back to win 2-1, Man U, down again, come back to win 2-1, now this :blues: our team is made of character
