Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Like it or not there will be people who still come here and talk about Owen for the next few weeks. You cant forget about a player like that all of a sudden. He was like a son to Liverpool and to forget so easy would be a little ignorant of his time at the club. I hope soon we can start talking of Baros and Cisse doing the business for us soon but Michael's name wont be going away for some time yet.

Afterall, Owen is one of the Liverpool legends, in my opinion. Legends are not forgotten but remembered for eternity.

He's not a Liverpool legend. He's won nothing of note for and with the club. No European Cups, no premiership titles.

As a striker, he's no Ian Rush, he's no Dalgleish.

One player doesn't win Champions League or the Premiership, is it Owen's fault that LFC didn't win them no its not, that doesn't not make him a legend. Ian Rush didn't win cups by himself, it was a team effort.

did anyone notice how as owen signed for Madrid he shaved his shappy stubble ???

I know it sounds stupid but it seems to me he stopped grooming himself like when he was a kid :D  over the past two seasons he was unshaven most of the time with a skin head, when he was on great form he was neaty tidy with a nice head of hair it seems to a sign of not caring anymore, now he's signed for madrid he's happy again and shaving :D

So Owen has to fight for his place ? I'm sure he'll give it all he's got but I have
a feeling he's going to over extend himself and TWANG goes the hamstring.
Owen has been playing within himself for a season and a half nursing and protecting his ongoing weakness but doing enough to still be LFCs first choice striker , he'll have to do a lot more at Madrid .
Verdict , Selling shirts for Madrid could prove to be the peak of his career . :(

I've had the same feeling about Owen this last half season that i had about Fowler before he left. He just didnt seem to be enjoying his football anymore- either for LFC or Eng, the cheeky smile didnt appear last year. The difference with Fowler though is it seemed to be a real wrench leaving the club- i dont think Owen shared the same passion and thats why i dont think he will be a club legend to the degree of Fowler. But you cant hide the fact that he has been a brilliant player for us (probably our best over the last 6 or 7 years) so i hope he has many successes at Madrid.

That's what I missed about this forum, the garbish thats talked here.  Michael Owen is one of the best strikers in the world and he will show his true ability at Real.  Over the years good managers have been able to stop Owen using his pace, they have done this by playing defencively deeeper against him.  This is nowhere more apparent than in the English National team.  Euro 2004 saw teams laying deeper to counter act Owen but this meant joy for Rooney as he is'nt a box player like Owen.  Rooney got buckets of space to get quick strikes in on goal because the defenders were laying off more worried about Owen.

Owen is however able to score even if defenders lay off him but he requires outstanding creative delivery to succeed here.  Liverpool had that in the 3 trophy season with Litmanen and more so McAlister.  With these two Owen was prolific some people with short memories may have forgotten the pride he restored to us when beating Arsenal at Cardiff.

Owen will be outstanding at Real because he will have the most creative players in the world around him.

As for Liverpool I think him leaving is a travesty.  Those who think £100,000 is too much, there'd be plenty left over from the wages saved by getting rid of Biscan, or that two years could have been funded if we had'nt bought Diouf or put it another way,  would you pay Henry, RVN, Raul or Ronaldo that much, I bet most of you would so why not Owen he' as good.

Lastly he's ben a great servant of LFC and I wish him well.

Agree mostly.

Last line though i don't agree, being selfish and knowing we've let one of the best players ever to wear our shirt (some compliment) leave... I hope he ****** up and we get him back on the cheap.

If he doesn't ****** it up and come back, hats off.

Legend. :)
