MARSEILLE VS LIVERPOOL - Champions league : sept 16 ko 19:45

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Toffeehater » Sun Sep 14, 2008 5:11 pm

Alright mates , this week is the first game of the champions league group stage and will we follow up with that great performance against manchester united yesterday? OM have a good side , a very good defensive mid , lorik cana , they have sold their brightest prospect samir nasri as well all know to arsenal but they have brought in another good player , hatem ben arfa , who's a good player , full of tricks and surely will be a threat . Will we see the return of steven gerrard and fernando torres? I personally feel that rafa will not play torres but gerrard will start .

Reina

Arbeloa          Carragher        Skrtel         Aurelio

Babel             Gerrard           Masch/Alonso   Riera

                    Keane            Kuyt

Just 2 changes to the side that beat manu , depending on whether masch is fit , if he is than he should start if not xabi will take his place .

If Gerrard is still having a bit of injury problems, I'd start the same team except the Man U side with:

Babel Alonso Masch Riera

and substitute Babel or Riera for Gerrard in the second half.  But if Gerrard is fit I would substitute Babel on the second half.  Right now Alonso and Masch proved how they can dominate a midfield, so I wouldn't mind giving that another try.  Even though I have a feeling Benayoun will start, somehow he always does.

And if Torres is fit, I can also see him as a late sub for either Kuyt or Keane, whoever does worse.  Which is possible it could be Keane  :Oo:

Keane really needs 1 goal to settle his nerves down and i hope he does get it soon . He's got alot of pressure on him , knowing that we forked out 20 million on him , feels he has to justify that price tag and  broke the sucessful 4-5-1 formation to accommodate him . I am confident he will get it soon though . ManU Cun.ts saying that berba has done more in 3 minutes that keane has done in 4 weeks , what a bunch of wan.kers

Well if United thinks that keane has really done nothing, I suppose they lost to a 10 man liverpool side with no Gerrard and Torres.   :p

Keane ran back , defended , at time led the line up front his own , pressured their defenders , ran tirelessly  . Proud of the lad , you could see the difference between his attitude and berbatov , who did :censored: all apart from the first 3 minutes , sulked upfront the whole day .

Keane anyday over berbatov for me

Berbatov was effective in the first few minutes but after Carra gave him a few hard knocks he soon settled down and just wondered aimlessly around the pitch.

Depends on the fitness of Torres, Mascherano and Gerrard, although I assume Gerrard must be reasonably fit to have come on against the mancs.

As for Berbatov, he is great in possession but might as well not be on the pitch without possession - as Saturday proved. Not that it has any bearing whatsoever on Liverpool vs Mars A. Funny how much credit Keane gets for working hard etc - to quote Toffeehater "ran back , defended , at time led the line up front his own , pressured their defenders , ran tirelessly  . Proud of the lad" Funny how little pride is aimed at Kuyt for doing the same, AND scoring the occaisional goal and creating the important winners.............

Glad to see Kuyt in one person's starting line-up, it might be hard to stick with the side from Saturday that all deserve to start this game. In fact I'd say fook it and do just that, bring Torres on if needed and save him for Stoke or beyond that. The thing with Kuyt is he'll run for 90 mins, work hard and pop up with something late on, while some might think Babel deserves a starting place it is still my view he is most effective off the bench. If he had been on the right wing from the off, then it's very possible he wouldn't have been on the left side of the area to score the winner and probably wouldn't have even been on the pitch as Rafa likes to sub the wide players around the time Babel came on! (funnily enough)

If Mascherano isn't fit then it would have to be straight swap with Gerrard from the side that played the mancs. The side should be buzzing and hopefully will go for all three points to kick us off. I hate us starting our CL campaign away, all too easy to settle for an away draw

Aurelio has been left behind with a knock.

It will be tougher than last year, but I think we will win.
We should definitely get something from the game.

I have never criticised kuyt , in fact ask pee wee , i have been one of the most consistent people here in defending and praising him and as for keane its been 4 games , maybe he's not used to the team yet !!

Yeah that is true you are one of the happy clappers.  :D

I personally have never ever questioned Kuyt's work ethic but every time he gets the ball in a shooting opportunity, I find myself wishing it had gone to someone else as he almost always finds a way to miss.

That having been said, I would start with exactly the same team that started against Manure, why tinker with something that worked? I alos really hope that Keane scored, I really like the look of him on the field I always have the feeling he is about to do something special

Dont knwo if you are being sarcastic about Keane.

But i agree with you, he looks very good, getting into positions deep and getting onto the ends of low crosses. Hard to pick up. He is cvlose to scoring, his work ethic  :D  is very good also!
