Harsh.  One mistake and he's a liability?  Not in my book.  None of that excuses the fact that he feels betrayed for not being told about this decision before the window closed.  Rafa's in rare form this year when it comes to unsettling players.  I used to defend him against the 'poor man manager' jibes but now I am really starting to wonder.  :glare:

Maybe Rafa feels that we have enough without Hyypia to progress to the knockout stages?
Perhaps he feels that given Hyypia's age and the fact he cannot play every game in all competitions he will benefit from not travelling and will be fresher for League games as a result!
The same two CDs that play on a Tuesday or Wednesday will probably not both play in the following League game.As for Hyypias complaints,it's a compliment to him that LFC chose to keep him and one he should have thought about before whinging to the media.

Horrible move by the club. Rafa should ofcourse have told him about his plans and then let the big finn make his decision. He would have stayed but now he feels let down.

Welcome aboard Bad Bob, come over to the dark side
In all seriousness though Rafa does seem to be on some sort of self destruct mission at the moment and I don't think he has ever shown any man management skills but now even his team selections are getting weird which is a worry.

I don't disagree with any of that at all, Barry.  There are undoubtedly good reasons for not including Hyypia on that CL roster.  I do, however, take exception to how he found out and when.  When a model professional like Hyypia is annoyed with Rafa's handling of a situation, I sit up and take notice.

Maybe he should have waited till he talked the reasons through with Rafa,Bob?
OK Hyypia may have felt let down but its not as if he has been told he's never gonna play again. And you can bet your boots when(or should I say if) D  we reach the knockout stages Rafa will select Hyypia as his experience will be needed!
Im sure a phone call to the manager would have put his mind at rest and made him feel better.Maybe then he could have reisted the urge to complain publicly to the media!

Everytime you click a website or open a paper these days there are players complaining(from all clubs) and throwing their toys out of the pram,i hate that and would much prefer any grievances to be sorted in house when possible!
Ten years ago if a player done that he'd have been dropped or fecking sold in some cases!lol
The thing is once a player opens his mouth to the press and its any way negative it becomes instantly manipulated, because thats what journalists do.
In the present climate especially I would rather our players concentrated on winning matches and forget about giving negative interviews........Our club has been in the papers for too many bad reasons lately.

Fair enough, Baz, but it's a two-way street.  Rafa could just have easily had a word and made sure that Sami knew the score before leaving for international duty.  And, this is not an isolated incident.  There's been indications that neither Alonso nor Finnan knew they were up for sale until it was reported in the press.  I'm all for a manager being ruthless and deciding when to move players on for the good of the team but, FFS, a bit more effort to make sure the players hear it from him first wouldn't go amiss.
