i don't know how much longer i can sustain my passion for football. this is all just crazy. if these guys go through with their ambitions and start buying players for prices in excess of 50 million quid then the only option for other clubs to compete is to find new owners who are prepared to pay even more. its horrific and i hope it all just stops. if uefa, fifa, the fa and whoever else had any balls and want to save the sport they will introduce salary caps and transfer limits right now.

Really pretty shocked at this news. How can they stop these sorts of things happening. What chance will newly promoted teams have? It is really going to get out of hand in this continues to happen. But then again who is to say that Chelsea should be allowed and then not Man City?

One thing that the NBA does well is they have a salary cap system that makes sense. Just say your total wages allowed is 100, if you want to pay 110 you can. If you pay 10 over then you have to put 10 in a fund that gets distributed amongst the rest of the clubs. This allows you to go over when needed whilst providing incentives to stay under it. It also promotes equality in the league by propping up smaller clubs that are not matching the other clubs spending.

Of course players could just join teams and take wage cuts, but I think its a step in the right direction. Would be positive as the last couple of steps that the game has taken have been backwards...

City fail with Casillas bid
Keeper turns down record breaking deal

Manchester City have failed with a transfer-record breaking bid to make Iker Casillas the highest paid footballer in the world, according to Spanish sources.

City are understood to have made contact with Casillas's agent about a move to Eastlands.

City owners - Abu Dhabi United Group - have already pledged to spend big and reports suggest they are prepared to break the world-record transfer fee, currently still set at just under £50million when Zinedine Zidane joined Real Madrid from Juventus in 2001.

City broke the British record when they paid Real £32.5million for Robinho in August, but their bid to land Spanish number one Casillas looks to have come up short.

According to leading Spanish radio station Caden Ser, City were ready to pay the buy-out clause in Casillas contract - currently set at a staggering £128million.

Then they offered to pay him up to £11million-per-season - which would see him picking up just short of £230,000 per week - dwarfing any deal paid to the world's top players at present.

However, it is believed Casillas rejected the overtures out of hand and therefore City had no need to make a formal offer to Real and there was little point in doing so unless the player wanted to move.

Despite the failure - it is a clear sign City's new owners are intent on taking the club to a new level.

That is silly money indeed. They already have a good keeper in Joey Hart anyway. God if they came in with a bid of that magnitude for Torres or anyone of our squad I couldn't see the owners say no. (maybe we can lure them into buying Babel?):p

Silly sums of money being bandied around again regarding City. It will be interesting to see, who they actually manage to sign come January. Apparently Huntelaar turned them down as well before joining Real Madrid, as they were "the wrong club in Manchester". Not everyone seems interested in joining Robinho at City, but I still expect them to pull out a couple of noteworthy signings in the next transfer window.
