Great performance by the dutch , kuyt with 2 assist , really feel happy for the lad . Man of the match , van der vart , kuyt running him at second . What a second goal by wesley sneijder . The dutch are favourites to win this now .

Italy :no , looks like when nesta retired , their defence crumbled like today , against a good side . Totti retired , they've got luca toni and di natale who can't score . Italy need to change it soon or they are going to be out . Disgrace that the world champions just rolled over and died without a fight

11.11 DEFENDER LEGALLY OFF THE FIELD OF PLAY
A defender who leaves the field during the course of play and does not immediately return must still be considered in determining where the second to last defender is for the purpose of judging which attackers are in an offside position. Such a defender is considered to be on the touch line or goal line closest to his or her off-field position. A defender who leaves the field with the referee's permission (and who thus requires the referee's permission to return) is not included in determining offside position.

spot on , italy players should have known better .

In fairness to Italy they didnt roll over and die, nothing was going for them. Van der sar played a blinder with a few good saves, del pieros free kick for instance. They dont seem to have a match winner, the one player who can make a difference. At least thats how it seems to me in any event.

Dirk Kuyt was boss tonight. Ran his socks off. 2 assists. Well done.

Should have scored the 3rd himself though but his first touch was dire.

Best game of the tourno so far

Pirlo has a lot of quality yep.

Today we assisted to a "How to make a perfect counter attack" twice from Holland.

And they did it probably to the most difficult team to make a counter attack, and world champions.

Should Holland had a lesser team like Austria today on front of them, they would have packed 5 or 6 goals.

Holland has been better than Portugal so far in my book.

Anyhow, don't discard the Italians for this tournament. You can never discard them.

A really nice match from Kuyt and a lovely 90 minutes of total football from the Dutch.  Absolute joy to watch, they were.  I'm not going to get carried away yet, though, and declare them tournament favourites.  They, like Spain, have a history of looking unstoppable in the group stages only to crumble at the business end of the tournament.  I'm liking what I've seen so far, though.

Nice find, Joe.  I didn't even notice that defender beyond the goal but it is as you say--that player needs to be considered.  Obviously no one's pointed this little rule out to the commentators or the guys that write up the post-match synopses yet, as everything I've read still talks about a glaring linesman error. :D

Sabre wrote:Radun, do not hesitate to talk about Romania in the general euro thread, I appreciate your brief report (already heard about Mutu) and any development that you might want to write.

You're glad I remember Hagi? Are you kidding? if I remember Ungureanu, Craioveanu, Belodedici and Lacatus  how could I forget Hagi? :)

In fact, I was wondering what was wrong with Romania, since they have produced good players on consistent basis since I was a child at least.

Well as you have seen I was quite right with my prediction, except France were just as boring as Romania. Romanians see the 0-0 draw against France as a good achievement, and since we can only score from set-pieces or from some Mutu magic I am happy with the result aswell.

Romanian players are still as talented, but with the wild capitalism and a lot of good salaries in Romanian football (not compared to the western europe but to the normal people) the good footballers are spoiled very early and they rarely fulfill their potential now, as once they gain big salaries they do not have the same workrate. Mutu was also like that, apparently the cocaine scandal changed him partially, he works much more (at least on the pitch he does). Chivu is the only exception to this, but he left Romania in 2000.

Romanian players are very cheap and can be very good. Our defence is very good, especially Dorin Goian from Steaua (solid cb, excellent header, scored vital goals in set-pieces for the club and Romania) who might be sold for around 6 million euros. No player good enough for Liverpool for the moment, though.

Sabre, it is unbelieveable that you remember Ungureanu ! Although coming from a Spaniard is a bit understandeable, he scored that 3rd goal in what was the best victory over Spain in an official match. (for the other posters: Romania - Spain 3-1 in 1987, with Romanian goals coming in 38th, 43rd and 45th minutes and Spain in 82nd minute). I was very young those days but I still remember that game.

I can answer any question about Romanian players, feel free to ask, but I would like to take you back in time to the USA 1994 WC - Romania's second goal against Argentina, that was the best goal I have ever seen. Check this link (from 0:25):

Well the third goal was not bad either :D

Sorry for the off-topic by the way
