that question should read "how much influence does david beckham have over the england manager when away on international duty?"

Agreed.

One thing does concern me big time is Stevie Gerrard.

I know everything is "sorted", but is nothing is certain in football, and how quickly does the team need to make an impact to ensure Stevie stays.

BTW, I haven't heard any rumuors or anything, but 10 days ago, though Owen would be staying as well!

that's the big question that most fans are asking. however we all knew that stevie g committing his immediate future to liverpool means nothing in modern day football. if we don't improve this season and start challenging the top 3 for top honours, he will want away again. fortunately at least he felt he owed the new manager an opportunity to sort things out, unlike owen.

Erickson has influence over nobdy. Remember he said he'd consider his England job if they got rid of Crozier, the fA said "****** you Sven we'll do what we want" he thought about it and surpise surprise stayed on in his multi million pound job.

Remember Cisse saying he reconsider LFC if GH was sacked. Shock horror, he didn't change his mind.

All those players who talked of going on strike if Ferdinand was dropped from England, strike never happened.

When will people realise, players & managers do what is best for them and they are right too. They feel obliged to appear loyal but there is no room for loyalty and friendship in this business. I f Real Madrid came to Gerrard and offerred him £100k a week to play in midfield every game for the greatest club in the world then he'd be gone. Viera didn't go because negotiations broke down (he'd be on a third less than their top players, a blow to the ego for Viera) . How come it took him so long to realise he loved Arsenal, ITS ALL SH*T.

Perhaps I'm just being pessimistic.

Stevie is cuptied now for CL for this season which is good (from clubs point of view).

Think at least with the MO saga, it has brough us all down to earth and realise that if we want to win it, then we need to battle hard.

Owen got critisized because of his poor performance these past two seasons which were because of his injuries and other personal problems. I think he had enough of it and decided to start out fresh, he couldn't take the responsibility of being the best striker in LFC once again.
