That would have been me and I went with Gerrard because, as the match winner, he made all the difference on a day of indifferent performances from the red men pretty much across the board.  So, I ask you, if choosing Gerrard is laughable, who else would have been worthy of MOM yesterday? ???

I'd choose Carra.

* Until the 1-1, in which everyone of the team would have received stick, he was one of the few that IMHO did an ok game. There are not negative comments on him neither in the match thread, nor the reports of the people who went the match.

* He chose as a CB to do a going forward, and with deflection and everything it was a great choice  :D

* Opening the can is always the most difficult one

* Gerrard's goal wouldn't have been worth 3 points without CArra's goal, and last but not least, defenders often get less credit than players like Torres and Gerrard, so in case of doubt, give it to Carra!  :D

i would have given motm to one of boro's players, i thought they played well and in all fairnesss didn't deserve to lose, but we got 3 points and really thats all that matters, hopefully our football will pick up but to be honest i don't care as long as we win

I must say each time i see that Tuncay he looks like a very good player to me. His little flick turn was top drawer.

Jamie Carragher has confirmed he will try to claim his deflected goal during Saturday's 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough at Anfield.
Several national news agencies credited the 85th minute strike as an Emanuel Pogatetz own-goal, though most of the Merseyside media - including Liverpoolfc.tv - saw it as Carragher's fifth career goal.

The man himself said: "I want to claim it but it's not the end of the world if I don't get it. I'm hardly going to break any goalscoring records, am I?  :D

"Middlesbrough performed well. It was a great strike from Mido and, to be honest, I couldn't really see us scoring.

"They defended very well but I've seen that happen so often. We have done it so many times at Anfield, where all of a sudden something just happens in the last 10 minutes and the Kop sucks a goal in.

"We have been doing that for 40 years, since the days of Bill Shankly."

Carragher's goal along with Steven Gerrard's last-gasp winner meant Liverpool spent Saturday night top of the Barclays Premier League.

Chelsea now edge it on goal difference following a 1-0 victory at Wigan, but Carragher claims it is too soon to start looking at the table.

He said: "It is too early in the season to say where we are as a team. The proof that we have improved will be there after several months if we haven't had too many draws and losses.

"There is a lot of pressure when you play for Liverpool and I know what the headlines would have been had we lost to Middlesbrough – they would have said the title's over.

"I'm sure there would have been a lot of criticism of players and the manager had we lost but we are top of the league and that's the difference. That shows what fine lines there are in football."

I hope he gets it, he didn't score last season so it would be nice for him to get this one

Perhaps I don't understand the criteria, but I wouldn't have doubted for a second that goal has to be credited to Carra!

I think he does well to request it.

another good result without playing well. the less said about the performance the better. apart from the first 15 minutes or so we were clueless.

reminded me a lot of a game we played against charlton in houllier's last season. we were 1-0 down with about two minutes to go when hyypia equalised. then gerrard, despite having a poor game, popped up with an injury time winner. at the time the game went a long way to securing a "magnificent" fourth place as ged put it.

make no mistake though, we've still got problems. we've got no width and the fron two are still a work in progress. we need to up it significantly at the weekend or villa will rip us to shreds.

I think he does well to request it.

Supposedly the ball has to have been on target when the claimant struck it in order to claim it. I seem to recall having serious doubts over Crouch's first goal I think it was, hit from around the edge of the box, hit a defender and went in. My reason for doubting it was simply I couldn't say for sure, given the short distance it travelled before taking a deflection, that it was on target.

Personally I believe it should be an own goal if the deflection is the principle reason the ball hits the back of the net. If it takes a slight deflection that makes little difference to the deflection then give it the attacking player, if it hits a defender and the deflection sends the keeper the wrong way then own goal - especially if the keeper would have saved the original shot. I'd be interested to listen in on the claims panel discussing a penalty saved onto the post but hitting the keeper's back and crossing the line. It was on target originally, I wonder what their stance would be on that scenario.

If anything ever happens to Crouch, a gangland hit or something then the suspect list will be fairly short I reckon :D

Had we lost this match would anyone believe we were already out of the title race?
