Sabre wrote:There are many things being said about Bolt. To summarise, it's three kind of comments.

a) Everyone agrees what he has done is awesome

b) Some runners are saying that he shouldn't be that arrogant and should respect their rivals more.

c) Some press and some runners, like that German who said the situation is a joke, are pointing him as a cheater because doping.

With b) I can agree, maybe he's a bit too much of a showman.

But c) is something I don't find acceptable as he's been controlled as anyone else. Accusing him of that like the German or some press did is not very sportive, saying that in Jamaica there isn't an anti doping agency to suggest he's doped, is as unfair as saying that Phelps is probably doped, as in USA there are the most advanced labs to make an undetectable doping. That's to accuse without proof, and that's not fair.

I guess you can say Jacques Rogge agrees with #2 as well, mate.

Bolt must show more respect for his rivals, says IOC's Rogge

Thu Aug 21, 12:10 AM

BEIJING (AFP) - Jamaican sprint superstar Usain Bolt should show more respect for his rivals said IOC President Jacques Rogge on Thursday.

The Jamaican, who celebrated his 22nd birthday on Thursday, has set the track alight with his world recordbreaking performances in winning the 100 and 200 metres Olympic titles here.

However, Rogge while complimenting Bolt, did not go as far as he had in praising American swimmer Michael Phelps and his eight gold medal haul - he had labelled him as an icon - and took issue with him over the manner in which he behaved after he had crossed the line.

"Bolt is in another dimension to Phelps," Rogge told AFP.

"He must be considered like Jesse Owens in the 1930's. However, he has a bigger edge over his rivals. If he maintains this gap then he will be quite something.

"However, he still has to mature. He is a young man but he should show more respect for his rivals. That would be more in the spirit of the Olympic ideal.

"He should shake hands with them after the finish line. However, he is only 21 and he will learn. I have no problems with his showboating (prior to the race) but a shake of the hand or a tap on the shoulder immediately after the race would be a good gesture.

"It would be good not to have a repeat of the 'catch me if you can' gesture," added Rogge, referring to Bolt's actions metres from the line in the 100m when he turned to the crowd and opened his hands in what could be perceived as mocking his seven other opponents.

Bolt, who by winning the 200m on Wednesday became the first sprinter since Carl Lewis in 1984 to achieve the sprint Olympic double, will be in line for a third gold medal with the 4x100m relay team that begins its campaign on Friday.

I don't think Bolt is mocking any of his opponents. He is just so happy to be an olympic champion and he is kind of an out there loves the spotlight type of person. And if his other rivals took offense maybe they should do something about it and not get their @ss handed to them so badly.

I questioned someone very close to athletics about the possibility of Bolt being on drugs and the response was the following:

Drug users muscles are usually very tense during a race and their muscles extremely well defined. During the pre-games months, they burn every gram off fat off the muscle just leaving the tissue. Bolts muscles dont show that, nor his relaxed movement style so basis that, I´d say he is drug free.

Moving on........

Did anyone see the men´s 10,000m open water swim yesterday? David Davies was superb, led for 9,950m and lost it in a last gasp sprint with a 6´9" Dutch lad. Making it even better was it was only Davies´ third ever open water swim. I watched it all the way through, all 1hr 52 mins or something and it was fantastic, I willed the lad to win but he was goosed in the last 500m. All credit to him, what a fantastic race, fantastic effort - real olympic spirit.

These have been great olympics. I might have a go myself next time !!

By the way, in terms of physical effort, 1km swimming is worth 5kms of running, so these lads covered teh equivilent race distance of 50kms, or 5 miles longer than the running marathon. Kudos. The big Dutch lad races upto 25kms (swimming) equivilent of 125kms running or 78 miles !!!!!

IOC orders investigation into He Kexin's age

By Chris Chase

The International Olympic Committee has ordered an investigation into the age of Chinese gymnast He Kexin, The Times of London reports. Faced with almost insurmountable evidence which suggests that He is two years younger than the birth date listed on her Chinese passport, the IOC has launched an inquiry that could result in the stripping of He's gold medals.

This news comes on the heels of another Times report that details the findings of a New York computer security expert who found official Chinese documents that list He's age as 14 years and 220 days. Mike Walker used a Chinese search engine's cache feature to find He's actual date of birth on spreadsheets from a Chinese government website. The spreadsheets were taken down off the site recently and He's name had been removed.

Assuming the IOC is committed to a real investigation and not some dog and pony show, the revelation that the Chinese government covered up the ages of gymnasts could end up being the defining moment of these Games for the host country. Officials wanted the Olympics to be a coming out party for a new China. But while the Games have been a huge success, there is a legitimate possibility that China's legacy from Beijing '08 will be that of a massive government cover-up, not the magical Opening Ceremony or the transformation of Beijing or anything else positive.

i don't know how people can call bolt arrogant when he's doing everything with such a big smile on his face, and especially when by comparison the majority of the other track athletes are pulling these stupid finger move things and trying their hardest to look they're members of the wu tang clan. if i'd just broken a couple of world records and left the rest of the competition eating my dust i'd probably spend a few moments being pretty pleased with myself.

i've only seen the odd hour of the games here and there but just about everything i've seen has been fantastic. there have been some almost superhuman performances and the general standard has been amazing. a shame it all has to end...

Hopefully that'll be enough to keep us ahead of the Russians in the medal table.

:nod

Had to laugh at Wallace Spearmon in that 200M final.  He was the American in the outside lane that ran for what looked like bronze.  After the race he was strutting around and posturing no end until someone finally called him over for a word.  Turns out he'd stepped on the lane-marker line coming around the turn and had been disqualified.  Classic mood change caught on camera!

Can't believe that we lost in softball. Equivalent to if Phelps didn't win a single gold. Massive dissapointment considering it will be the last softball medals at the olympics for a while. It probably should have never become an olympic sport. But I don't see why baseball has to be cancelled. The olympics should try and work out something with Major League Baseball to allow the stars to play. It would be a very competitive tournament between Japan, USA, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela.

Also, I don't understand why tennis is in the olympics and not golf.

I am pretty sure the home contry can have a hand in picking the sports, maybe we will see some 20/20? :D
