Overnight accommodation in liverpool.. - ..cheap and cheerful, preferably..

Right....
I'm gonna start this early in the season and need the help and assistance of all ye devoted and dedicated LFC fans who travel to Anfield for a home game...
I'm looking for a cheap and cheerful hotel, fairly central if possible (not a B&B or a hostel, God forbid !) in the city. I'm risking divorce and alienation from the wife and kids by hoping to get over to Anfield for a few games this season.
What's that I hear you say ? "Surely a footie match is not worth more to you than your marriage !!".....(the jury's out on that one  :D  )
Anyway, if anybody out there can help with a few suggestions on where is a) clean, b) preferably cockroach-free, and c) cheap-ish, I am all ears and forever in your debt.

Feel free to PM me if you prefer.

Ta.

(Can't wait to go...Oooooh, I'm so excited I could crush a grape !)

I am shocked, hurt and offended, Ace....

Nah, I jest. Of course I am coming over...I was over a couple of times last season but the hotel(s) I was lookign at is booked out for the couple of weekends I had in mind. As expected Rankair lash up the prices on the day of a game so it's actually cheaper to stay a night in some cases...

Mind you, one time I went over (think it was the same day Ireland took on England in the rubgy in Croke Park), I took the scenic route....via East Midlands. Spent half the Saturday on a train to Liverpool and the same back the other way the next day.

Nasty rumour I just booked a room at the Premier Travel Inn Albert Dock for 60 quid which will be cheaper than the Crowne Plaza.

You´ll get the best deal at an F1 or something, type Liverpool hotels into google etc.. and call around.

The Formula one is cheap mate and right opposite the albert dock ,and then theres the Stag and Rainbow on queens drive , which is opposite The Jolly Miller and is about 10 mins in a taxi from anfield. Also you could Try Suepee's cafe on Smiithdown road , she is now a B&B and i promise you will get the best full English in Liverpool .

All this info is from a trusted source who i cannot possilby reveal.

We normally stay at the Aldephi - some of the rooms smell a bit but its in a good location and you know your in Liverpool. Also stayed at the Park hotel which wasn't bad.

Thats pretty much true - but it's handy - right beside lime street and the bus to the airport. Easy to walk into town. Just associate it with going to Anfield now. Theres a nice kebab shop round the corner which is open on the way home from the pub.

You know what mate ? I quite possibly did...
It was no crank though about the newborn - he's a strapping wee boy, and at 7 months he can almost :censored: standing up  :D

But it's no crank that I'm looking for a - preferably recommended - place to stay in Liverpool. I stayed in the Devonshire one time but it's booked out. Tried the Formule1 - booked out. Crowne Plaza - a bit too pricey....Travelodge - booked out.

Thing is, I'm looking to do a few trips this season if I can but on a budget. I'd forgotten how expensive a combination of wife and kids can be....
