This was a black man A- destroying Nazi propaganda about Aryan supremacy in those particular races, and B- winning gold medals in a time where America was pretty much an apartheid state.

And you just don't see people winning Gold in the 100m, 200m, Long jump, and 4 X100 relay anymore.

I reckon Bolt could do it if he took jumping lessons.

The Cycling over the last few days has been great to watch

Been watching loads of the Olympics with it being the summer and being off work the past month and the cycling has been amazing to watch. The British hasn't just been dominant, they have been blowing everybody else off the track. Supremely confident and virtually every single rider has delivered so far. They set a target of finishing 4th in the medal table for 2012 and I thought that was VERY ambitious and now it looks like 4th is guaranteed this time around and we've still got a good shot of beating the Aussies to 3rd.

Sabre wrote:Yes, we have seen the Guardian and the Americans are calling us racist because of that. We're a bit surprised but not too bothered. Just in case we asked to the Chinese directly through the embassy and they confirmed there wasn't a single problem in our inoquous advert, while they stated it all was American tactics to unsettle the olympic atmosphere. So if the ones that are supposedly offended are not offended, then the inmediate question is what the fúck are up to the english and american press. It seems that they like to decide what's acceptable and what's racist or not from their saxon perspective and values, which are fine and respectable, but not the ones to set as an universal rule to other countries.

We don't have any problems with the Chinese, and they're a well integrated colony in our country. Chinese people do not need a gun to protect their commerce in our country. They are part of the society smoothly, they learn Spanish at a good rate, they pay their taxes and they mix with the local people.

That sign the team is doing, and the one that did the basketball team, is nothing but a children gesture which has never been offensive nor insulting. Just as we don't mind to be depicted as matadors or flamenco dancers and all black haired in the Hollywood films, we don't see any harm in that childish gesture. There's nothing wrong with having that kind of eyes, they are beautiful if you ask me, it's just a gesture to characterise the Chinese people, who are respected here. It's never an insult unless you insist it is. But the CHinese oficially do not think so. End of story, me thinks.

In the case of the Guardian there's a blatant aim to try to call us racist. They jump from this incident to the Luis Aragones event, instead of digging further in the basketball team who were the ones they were talking about. That basketball team precisely have donated money they've won in awards to the development of basketball in Africa and China, hardly actions of racist people. But the background of that team seems unimportant to the journo, who has more interest in the controversy rather than to finding out if these basketball guys are really racist.

Can you blame anyone for seeing that as racist though, honestly ?

Its okay for you to point the finger and call people homophobic or racist. But when you're countrymen are in question of it, you jump to their defence, and start whinging about the American and British press ?

Do the Spanish fans in football stadiums still make monkey noises towards black players ? Aragones and his racial slurs about Thierry Henry, like it or not the Spanish have never done themselves any favours when it comes to racisim.

Anyway its good to see old Blighty doing well, third in the table. And our cyclists have been fantastic, fair play.  :buttrock

I think that your explanation of your techno years and eyes like saucers explain your current brain damage, irritability, and lack of memory, as I've been very hard with true racism in my country. :;):

I don't jump into the defense of my countrymates systematically, as I'm well ashamed of racist signs in my country. Serious signs, mind you, workers underpaid because their race, abuse from police, insults in stadiums, I could go on as the list of racist problems isn't small, and it's very painful.

It písses me off that when there are both in your country and mine lots of racism problems, the english and american press just picked up and innocent and childish gesture. When I say childish gesture, I mean exactly that, we do that kind of thing when we're 4-8 years old, we're disguised as chinese or japanese, or we're making a theatre. That gesture is the universal gesture here if you were playing a game to characterise the chinese. That's why they used it, and the imperial dragon aswell, probably the two signs most typically chinese around here, none of them insulting, none of them thinking in a race being superior, or inferior.

If someone is constantly monitoring every sign, even from a culture they don't understand, to find racism, then they might ask theirselves how racist they are. As normal people do not see racial differences, just live and work with other human beings naturally, without thinking much about it.

And yes, UK are doing a good job in the medal... perhaps the Aussies are not that much LIGHT YEARS BEYOND as in the early pages of the thread was stated.

Trawl my posts, read what I've written and try and use it to belittle me.

But the fact of the matter is I've lived my life and enjoyed it, and will continue to do so.

Try doing the same.

:D Ok.

I did so (belittle you) because I find pretty insulting that you say I forgive Spanish racism -- that would make me a racist, which is one of the worst things you could tell me. You perfectly know that if you have a minimum respect towards me -- and that includes PM calling me little man-- you'll receive the same treatment. If you ignore me, I'll also ignore you.

BTW, I encourage you to enjoy your life, even use drugs with moderation if you need'em, but besides belittling, it's a good advice, as I wouldn't want you to end up as a bunch of mates I know that went too far that way. These days, they're not even able to write something in a keyboard, they're absent.

The British Track Cycling Team  :bowdown

7 Golds
3 Silver
2 Bronze

2nd place is the Spanish team with 1 Gold, 1 Silver & 1 Bronze

If you like a bet I suggest a double on Chris Hoy (3 Golds) as Sprots Personality of the Year and the GB Track Team as Team of the Year.

Couldn't get the odds for me could ya Daws?

Yeh, Spain "second", but nowhere near to that impressive numbers Scott. If it wasn't for good old Llaneras and Olabarria (it's impressive though this case because she started in track cycling 1 year ago after being a track and field athlete).

Question, is that tradition of track cycling followed all over the country or are there "hot spots" of track cycling?. Here unfortunately only in a few places is followed (basque country included) but we're losing the tradition because of the other cycling being better paid.

we're good at cycling, rowing & sailing. Why is this? let me explain...

Cycling - due to the high petrol prices Britain has taken to cycling everywhere hence the reason we're good at cycling.

Rowing and Sailing - due to it p1ssing down most of the time in Britain therefore making the rivers flood, we're also good at rowing/sailing.

While it's great that Britain is doing so well at the Olympics, why are they wearing such ugly outfits?

Seriously, they are awful. Too much royal blue.

For 2012, British Olympians should wear full white, with a small Union Jack on the chest.

Simple and elegant, like "Chariots Of Fire
