OT but more pointless International friendlies during the week I mean WTF the seasons just started and the Euros have just finished unbelievable.

Oh and its funny that Crouch leaves Liverpool and gets dropped from Cappello. :Oo:

everyone likes to win ugly. My concern is the the lack of basics. The passing in the last 2 games has been abysmal and as per last season we are hitting the ball long far to often. to many back to front long balls.

Of course it worries me when strikers don't have that understanding, to such a degree one blocks the other's shot. It's not a regular occurence in football, yes at least someone went for it, but some kind of shout or understanding would have seen that in the net. Just think about how hard it is to go for a ball and be the wrong side of it when your strike partner hits it, no attempt to jump out the way, nothing. I truly hope that was a one off and they do become a coherent attack force, jumping down my throat isn't going to change anything

Happy with the result? Of course. Happy with the performance? Nope. We need to improve on that, while we're missing Mascherano and Babel the team should be playing better than that (overall) I wish I shared your optimism, maybe after 18 years of false dawns it's hard to convince yourself that it will only get better.

I havent seen the game so cannot possibly comment on it.

But I have seen the goal and that was well taken from Torres, looks as though he's going to continue his fine form that hes been in all year. Personally I thought he may struggle a bit more this year, as he made such an impact last year, and that in itself is a tall order to live upto.

It now looks as though Liverpool have two men in the team that are truly capable of pulling us out the $hit, Gerrard and Nando. Whether thats good or bad I'll let others decide.

By all accounts the performance wasnt vintage and left some on here with worries, we needed to hit the ground running as we know dropping points early on can have a detrimental affect on the team later on in the season. But after Wednesdays perfomance against Liege I dont think a great performance was ever on the cards. But at least we got the three points, and lets not forget Sunderland away first game of the season isnt a stroll in the park.

I just wish Rafa had persued wingers over the summer to the same extent he has done with Barry, because against stronger teams we will get found out having the likes of Benayoun, Aurelio, Pennant and Kuyt playing wide. Thats an achilles heel of ours, but so is our defence at the moment, and like Stu rightly said our aerial dominance at the back is another worrying factor. I think thats why Hyypia was picked, and good selection IMO, although someone said a made a couple clangers.

I think Middlesborough at home next week will be the perfect tonic to sort out the confidence levels, or the lack of them and get a decent performance under our belt.

A bitter sweet victory.

But i'd go out on a limb and say you are fundamentally crying over milk that has not been spilt...of course in my ignorance i may be wrong..but in my right i will tell you that you are talking shi'te!

You talk

all the time so your opinion is of little consequence to me. I've voiced an opinion, whether you agree with it is neither here nor there for that reason. The fact you're not even countering any of the points in that last post speaks volumes as usual

What you could easily say is they haven't had time to gel yet, and that would be a fair point. They have barely done anything yet to suggest they've been at the club together for a few weeks.

Fair enough, I'm simply expressing concerns based on what has happened so far. It may come to nothing, you're reacting like I've said something like "Keane's sh'ite, he's hampering Torres and that partnership can never work".

I haven't seen mention of it in the two or three pages I've browsed, but what about Xabi's attempt on goal from his own half? I'd rather he shot from 30 yards or closer as I reckon he could put a lot more shots away, but feck me was that a good effort.

Biggest disappoint for me was yet another less than sparkling performance from Robbie Keane, and Rafa's decision to once again play Plessis, don't care what anyone says the lad is not ready to be starting in a key role in our midfield. totally agree mate, best post i"v seen on the game, plessis is just not good enough, forget giving him time to settle in to the first team, we haven"t got time to give in such a demanding, & massive
part to creating chances for the front men. yesterday"s game highlighted for me plessis was & is out of his depth. he had no idea
what to do with the ball when he got it,made no creative passes
& i was relieved big time when alonso came on for him at half time.

however he wasn"t the only player not to have a good game, but i
totally agree mate 3 points is what it"s about so i"m also happy for that.

It was a great effort, but imo if he'd been 30 yds closer the keeper wouldn't have been so far off his line and the opportunity wouldn't have been there.

btw heard some pundits saying before the game that Sundeland had reduced the size of their pitch to the smallest legal requirements. The thinking obviously is to deny space to those teams capable of exploiting it.

No wonder everything looked so congested.

The foul on Benayoun in the box was irrelevant since the initial foul was on Gerrard, hence no penalty.

Keane got in Torres way in our best chance of the game which would have certainly been a goal. It was just one of those things that can happen. Blaming Keane is pointless, it was an accident.

Kuyt is not good enough to play for Liverpool, he is a hard worker that's it. Harsh but true. Neither is Benayoun.

Rafa took Keane off and brought on El Zhar to play on the right, with Kuyt moving into a central role. This was a very strange move considering we were trying to get a goal. It was a move you might expect had the team been in front but we weren't and had Torres not scored we would have been going away with a poor draw. Keane or Torres can be quiet for 80mins then create a goal out of nothing as proved yesterday, neither should be subbed unless we are in front. If that becomes a common occurrence we may well draw as many games as we did last season.

Keane will come good and the "block" was just one of those things. Torres and him are still finding out about each other and the partnership will come goos if it's given the chance.

During the game I just kept wondering why we've again loaned Anderson out and keep trying to pretend that Dirk and Yossi are wingers.
