yeah, that run from bolt was incredible. he looked so relaxed before the start and knocked a chunk off the world record by putting the brakes on!! i might just check the odds on him being the first to ever to run under 9.6... or even 9.5?

great to see disappointing blighty getting a few more medals too.

11 golds now for the uk, 4 on saturday and 4 on sunday and still chance for another gold today, moves us up to 3rd in the medals table, only 7 golds behind the yanks who seem to have 20 contenders in each sport

Exactly.

Without Phelps, Britain would be joined tied with the United States for SECOND place in the medals table.

This Olympics is a sure sign that with more time and money invested, Britain can easily finish in the top three in 2012.

do we have anybody who might bring us gold in the athletics, this is one area we need to work on before 2012.

Phelps being from Baltimore, and most of my uni friends being from Baltomore, a lot of them have the same friends or have ran into him here or there, and he has quite the reputation as an @sshole. Doesn't take away from what he did, but there is a lot of overreaction to him at these games. People are trying to throw his name up there amongst the GREATEST ATHLETES OF ALL TIME, and I am just saying hold up, how many of you were throwing Mark Spitz anywhere near that conversation before Phelps came along? I know that he bettered Spitz, but beating a record by one (not sure if they had the same amount of events back in Spitz's day) cannot move him that much further ahead on the all time list than Spitz was (which I am guessing was somewhere in the top 40).

Also just to let you know, all of these sports "experts" debating this imaginary list, have either forgotten to qualify the argument as greatest American athlete or just happened to forget that top athletes come from other countries too.

I thought this game was going to give us a scare as I am a BIG fan of Gasol, Rubio, Navarro, and Calderon, and all of them have a lot of experience in the International game. But clearly, we have finally woken up and realized we need to play the International style (or at least find out what the American version of it is) when we play other countries. We had performed poorly on the International Stage from 2001-2007 and we dominated all the games in the Americas tournament which included Argentina, but we have proven that when we focus and try hard, there is still quite some distance between the United States and the rest of the world in producing top basketball talent. But considering how big our country is, and how much higher we value basketball than other countries, there is no excuse for this to ever change.

The most interesting thing about this tournament is Kobe (who played in the youth footie ranks at AC Milan when we was 12 years old) and Lebron have said they would consider playing in Greece, Spain, Italy, or Russia when their contracts are up if they were offered enough money (which is certainly possible because of the low value of the dollar and the lack of the salary cap in Europe)

One more point. CSKA Moscow is continuously referred to as Ceska Moscow by American "International" basketball "experts. As far as I was aware, anytime I heard British commentators refer to the same footy club it was C.S.K.A. as in saying all the letters and not trying to make it one word. Which is the proper way?
