MOM , reina keeping us in the game when we should have lost 3-0 . Well played reina .

Agree about Mascher and Babel. I just wish we had quality to replace quality.  Money and all..............

0-0 wasnt it? Kept them out.  If we were that shocking then the BELGIAN CHAMPIONS would have scored 2 or 3.

Come on lads cheer up, we´re always dicey at the start.

Leave it to Sammy to show them the error of their ways on the training ground tomorrow morning.

We didnt keep the out, the refs poor decision did - I wish they had been allowed that goal would have hopefully woken up our players

My god...that was absolutely awful. In fact, I feel sorry for Liege that they didn't get a win out of that. They certainly deserved it. Their goalie had nothing to do, until Gerrard's tame free kick.

Kuyt was his usual rubbish standard, Dossena, Agger and Plessis all struggled with the pressure they were put under and Torres and Keane were fed nothing at all at any point. Carragher and Reina were the only Liverpool players of any merit.

Rafa better give Pepe a big hug after that, cos he was key to to Liverpool walking away with a draw.

Some people are saying that they see Liverpool finishing 3rd or 2nd in the Premiership this year, but on the basis of what I've seen tonight, they'll be lucky to finish 7th or 6th. If Leige were even a slightly better team, they would have torn Liverpool a new one.

Also, whatever formation Liverpool were playing with, it's got to change. They're far too open in midfield and are too spread out to effectively feed the strikers.

Truly, truly awful. Roy Keane must be wetting himself in anticipation.

I do think we will still qualify, they still have to visit the red fortress!

Nah mate , we would have just lost 1-0 if he had allowed it. We never even looked like we could get a goal.

This worries me. I'm sure most of us do NOT want to see yet another season lost by a dicey start.

I agree that it will only get better - but it needs to be better from the start of the season.

I agree but these is how champions play they take points and get results off any team of any standard , we could have had a bad day as we were good during pre season but i just hope we pick up the pace , get some rhythm in our play and learn to pass properly before we play sunderland or it will be another slow start to the season . We now have the chance to build our lead over manure who don't have ronaldo and arsenal who have 9 first team players injured but still won. I don't want us to blow that with another slow start to the season . We need a quality winger now , hopefully in the next week or so , regardless of the price . It's time we stop shopping at the bargain department looking for cheap products . We've spent about 30 million so far on 3 players and we've sold about 20 million , which means that we've only spent about 10 million. I'm :censored: :censored: off with the yanks who have not given us money to buy players that we need , silva , barry and joe cole maybe even villa .... No manager can do a better job with the amount of money and backing he's getting from these 2 .  :no

Lets not beat around the bush - that performance fu*king stank.

Midfield was non-existent and unbelievably disjointed - I hope that midfield does not show again in that format for a long time. Really highlighted to me how much we will and are missing Mascherano (and Babel, for that matter), that would have been right up his alley.

Not really fair to pick on one player as really, everyone was guilty of giving the ball away far too cheaply. Too often the ball went between Carra and Agger and was then hoofed up the pitch with possession being lost yet again. We didn't just run out of ideas, we didn't seem to have one in the first place.

Things can only get better as they say - christ, they couldn't get much worse after that performance and we are very lucky to get away with a draw. Lets hope that is our bad performance out of our system, for everyone's sake.

Wow, what a f*cking bore fest!  Our lack of movement and creativity was shocking today.  If Rafa does not buy a quality wide player then we are screwed.

Reina 9 Saved a penalty, and made some other good saves.
Arbeloa 4 Offered almost nothing in attack, looked off form.
Carra 6 Ok defensively, but resorted to too much hoofing.
Agger 5 Looked off form today, careless in passing.
Dossena 4 Just like Arbeloa, looked shacky.
Plessis 4 He was a waste of space out there and his lack of movement did not help our attack.
Alonso 6 Tried to create things, but our lack of movement made him almost ineffective.
Benayoun 5 same as Alonso
Kuyt 3 Was completely useless, did nothing in attack today.
Keane 4 Went missing for most of the game.  So far has not shown that he's any better than Voronin.
Torres 6 Good movement from him, but did not get any good service today.
Gerrard 5 Was lively, but could not really affect the game.
El Zhar 3 Came on too late.

In a nutshell:

Reina - superb
Arbeloa - sh.it
Agger - sh.it
Carragher - poor
Dossena - sh.it
Benayoun - decent
Plessis - decent (considering his inexperience)
Alonso - poor
Kuyt - sh.it
Keane - sh.it
Torres - decent

Sums it up when our keeper is our best player on the night.  We deserved to lose that, no doubt about it.  Defence were a shambles, midfield were made to look bad because of Liege's tactics of the forwards dropping off to mark them, but the defence should have spotted this and tried to do more than just lump it.  Carragher and Agger didn't win a header between them all night and we were vulnerable at set pieces yet again.  Very sloppy performance.

On the bright side it can only get better.  Also Benitez giving the like of Plessis and El Zhar responsibility in an important game is encouraging.  Plessis will really benefit from having played that game.

Wow man. Thats just about the same game as I saw. I would lower the ratings on some of the players. But overall. Really really good ratings.
It was very obvious that our quality players didn't stand a chance with 5 losers playing beside them. I still trust Alonso, Torres and the likes will shine when you remove Plessis, Kuyt, El Zhar and so on and so on from the equation.

Add Masch, Skrtl and Babel and then we have a team.
If football is banned in heaven. I'd rather go to hell.
