STANDARD LIEGE VS LIVERPOOL - CL 3rd Qualifying round 1st leg

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby OneHotRed » Wed Aug 13, 2008 9:58 pm

Two yards off the pace, second to everything, won one header in the entire match (well done carra) - Not as fit, not as skillfull, not as hungry, we got kicked up in the air tonight, this is what Sunderland will do to us, which makes me worried.

BUT BUT BUT

This is all a ploy by rafa to go out early - so we can concentrate on the league.

Not sure what game you were watching MetalHead, but the one I saw on TV - Alonso passed into the Ether ....

i hope

rusty first game back. we underestimated the opposition and got caught out from the first 5 mins because of it

I fear

that our lack of creativity in midfield and non wingers will mean another frustraiting season and 4th place.

Very luky to escape with a draw, im confident we will come on on top at anfield...but it wasn't very convincing with the sunderland game just 3 days away.

Alonso was the only player who was doing something in the first half.

In the second half he drifted off the match in the last 15 minutes or so.

our best player was Alonso tonight, some of his passes were fantastic.

Very hard game, in which we were pretty lucky to get the 0-0. Keane and Torres never got going, and our midfield, for all the praise of Alonso was second best all night. Reminded me of a game against Bolton, physical players working very hard and willing to put good balls into the penalty area.

I never thought it would be easy tonight, but I expected more from us than we saw. I think we were lucky that they couldn't keep that pace up for 90mins or we may even have lost.

I'll give you that ... he tried. But this is not the Alonso I'd want to see. He needs to deliver and dictate a lot more.

Given the team make-up today - he needed control the game from midfield.

The absence of mascherano and babel hurt us . Mascherano would have broken up their plays , plessis is too young and babel would have offered some pace down the flank which beanyoun so clearly lacks . MOM , reina keeping us in the game when we should have lost 3-0 . Well played reina .

Subtle difference:

"It's been that kind of day where we can't do anything right and DONT get battered by the opposition".

0-0 wasnt it? Kept them out.  If we were that shocking then the BELGIAN CHAMPIONS would have scored 2 or 3.

Come on lads cheer up, we´re always dicey at the start.

Leave it to Sammy to show them the error of their ways on the training ground tomorrow morning.

dreadful stuff against a team that was at the same fitness levels as us (not that it showed ). nothing to take out of this game except we didnt lose. thought plessis and reina were the only 2 that could hold their heads up after that. different season same old cr@p ????
shamrock rovers and liverpool are not a matter of life and death to me. they are much more important than that.

He need to grow a set and go into challenges , everytime he pulls out , not the alonso i want to see , infact a long way from it . His passing did not stand out , but than again the opposition had some very big players and they marked out each and every of our player .
