Signing Barry gives the Yanks a chance to send out a clear message to LFC fans. Spending best part of £40m (although net a lot less when you consider who's been sold) on Rafa's 2 top targets whilst keeping our top players (i.e. Alonso) gives us the best chance of competing at the top of the EPL.
We have a real chance this year and hopefully the Yanks see that -
Best squad we've had for many seasons (Agger back, Keane and Barry (hopefully), good crop of potential 1st team youngsters)
Man Utd have multiple injury/illness problems
Chelsea have new management
All bowds well for us

Tired of too many saying things like:
"Well, if Rafa wants the players I'm sure the owners will back him"
"Even if we have a net spend of zero this summer it's all a smoke screen Rafa needing to sell to buy."
"The Barry deal will happen anyday and I am sure there is money stashed away to buy a top winger also."
These are lies, lies, lies and the sooner some starts accepting
the ownership situation the better.
The yanks are here to stay, unless the get around a billion(meaning forever or until they are forced to leave).
It has been quite clear for some time that we have now interest payments up to 30 million a year(will get worse)
and money for transfers will be extremely limited.
And still some prefer to be ignorant and says things like:
"No matter if Rafa gets 0 to spend each summer not winning the title is unacceptable".
"Now that the ownership situation has calmed down all the pressure is on Rafa"(no matter that nothing really has been solved and that he won't get any backing).
Wake up and smell the coffee!
