Gareth Barry TRANSFER is On * / Off * - *Delete where appropriate

Liverpool Football Club - The Rumour Mill

The squad still needs trimming by quite a bit, we don't need at least one of Benayoun or Pennant. We definitely don't need Voronin or Itandje, or Leto, and one of Arbeloa/Finnan should probably leave. Aurelio is expendable, whilst Insua could leave on loan, as could a host of others.

Plenty of business that could be done, with only a couple of weeks 'til the season starts.

If the Barry deal goes through, at least we can be fairly sure he wouldn't be another of these fringe players. If not, we need to pursue other targets, and this has to happen very soon.

Sportsmail understands that the mix-up was due to a deadline being missed by 20 minutes, and the transfer will finally be concluded on Thursday.

No doubt someone had to wake Parry up and remind him that we were supposed to be buying Barry today. Then he had to find his mobile phone, learn how to switch it on and then finally make the call.

You may have hit the nail on the head there. That bloke isn't the brightest spanner in the tool box.

Also pretty embarassing that we needed to provide the bank with a guarantee that funds to cover the move will be raised during the remainder of the close season.  Are we really that skint that we have to scramble to sell players that we dont want and then hope someone will take them.

How the hell is that embarassing, we are talking about £18 million ffs! We are in the middle of a credit crunch you know, I would imagine all the banks are getting very nervous over these figures.

BTW If the transfer does actually now go through wil that Brummie turd come back and apologise or carry on winging and whining?

Frustrating isnt it. If we do sign him for daft amount of money then I can only sit here in despair. Im hoping this transfer doesnt happen for the amounts being quoted, I like the player but if we are raped again in transfer price then I can only hope rafa does win the league or at the least challenge for it.

Well like the Keane fee it's top dollar, but you are getting a genuine first team player who is a captain of his club, and who will you would hope almost instantly improve us. Those of us who have constantly moaned about the surplus of "options" and "possibilities" players have got to be happy that finally we are splashing big dosh and stregthening the first team.

I know I'm stating the obvious here but not many foreign players settle in as quickly or as well as Torres, time isn't really on our side. I hope we get Barry, and I'm glad we got Keane. We might have paid a couple of mill too much for each, but if we're right in the rattle for the Premiership come March nobody will even remember the fees. I've had plenty of issues with the manager and the way he goes about the job, but when he spends big he tends to buy well and I think he has this time too.

We were eleven points off thew top last season with plenty of rotation and other problems. This season, we'll have a better team, not squad but team, and if we pick it regularly we will go extremly close. Feck the fees, get the players in and lets get started.

I've got to get the negative thoughts about the signing of Robbie Keane out of my head ,

£20M ffs

The similarities to the Craig Bellamy signing are freaking me out,
Official boyhood Liverpool fan
Home nations star striker
Proven Premtrack record
The big difference is the price,  £20M ffs

Am I the only one thinking this?

How many managers, given £20M to spend on one player, would buy Robbie Keane. Given that we had the best "second"striker in the prem last season.
I hope to god its a master stroke.

please someone tell me i'm not mad
I've watched my Heroes throught the slats at Melwood,,
I've STOOD on the KOP,,
I've cried for the 96 ,,

Don't EVER question my loyalty or support.

ive moaned a lot lately, but in Rafa we trust. if he thinks barry will add to the squad... go get him! i trust him with the big buys.. its the little ngog ones im not so sure about.
whatever happens in the market im sure rafa wants the best for teh club, and he knows more than us all so if he says barry will help us, then lets fecking get him! and we cant use the 20million as a weight on keanes shoulders, let the guy do his job on the field

Absolutely right. For the time being we havent signed barry but we have signed keane. Like ive mentioned before I do like the player and think he can offer a lot to the team. First half last night he did very well. I also think, like someone mentioned earlier, he will finish his career with us, I hope so, it means he has been a success !

Or ...... just to offer the half empty glass side of the arguement, he is so bad we just can't sell him  :D
